The Senior Mechanical Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, overhaul, and repair of heavy industrial mechanical equipment.
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Mechanical Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, overhaul, and repair of heavy industrial mechanical equipment, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Company equipment in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety and quality standards, codes, specifications and schedules.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Mechanical Maintenance & Repair
- Perform advanced maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy industrial equipment, including but not limited to:
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Heavy mobile equipment (e.g. cranes, forklifts etc.)
- Conduct precision alignment, balancing, bearing replacement, seal installation, and shaft repairs.
- Carry out major equipment overhauls, shutdowns, and turnarounds.
- Interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, manuals, and OEM specifications.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
- Execute and improve preventive maintenance (PM) programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Support predictive maintenance activities such as vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis.
- Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend corrective and reliability-focused solutions.
Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis
- Diagnose complex mechanical failures and implement effective corrective actions.
- Participate in root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and continuous improvement initiatives.
- In collaboration with the Operations Supervisor, provide technical input to maintenance planning and asset management strategies.
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete maintenance reports, work orders, inspection records, and equipment history logs accurately and on time.
- Provide feedback on spare parts requirements and inventory optimization.
- Assist with development and review of maintenance procedures and SOPs.
Technical Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical drive systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
- Familiarity with CMMS systems for work order management and reporting.
- Knowledge of welding, machining, and fabrication principles (as applicable).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision
Qualifications & Experience
Education & Certification
- Demontrated competencies normally acquired over a minimum of fifteen (15) years hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance of heavy industrial equipment.
- Demonstrated experience leading repairs, overhauls, and shutdown activities.
- Technical Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field.
- Trade certification or apprenticeship in Mechanical Maintenance (preferred).
