JOB TITLE:                            Speech and Language Pathologist

 

DEPARTMENT:                     Special Education Needs Services

JOB SUMMARY:

This is a professional position, responsible for evaluating communication and swallowing disorders, and for developing and implementing individualized treatment plans to restore, compensate for, or adapt to patients’ functional needs. Planning and administering medically prescribed speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing therapies in accordance with professional clinical standards. Collaborating with multidisciplinary team members (including educators, occupational and behavioral therapists, psychologists, and medical staff), providing education and emotional support to patients and their families, and supervising support personnel such as speech–language pathology assistants.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Identify children developmental speech and communication difficulties/disorders.
  2. Assessing and treating swallowing and communication difficulties arising from a variety of causes, e.g. congenital problems (such as cleft palate) or acquired disorders such as stroke or injury.
  3. Devising, implementing and revising relevant treatment programmes.
  4. Advising cares on implementing treatment programmes and training other professional in therapy delivery.
  5. Assessing communication environments.
  6. Monitoring and evaluating clients’ progress
  7. Working with clients on a one –to –one basis, and group to deliver therapy.
  8. Writing and maintaining confidential client case notes and reports, as well as information for clients, careers and other professionals.
  9. Managing a caseload taking account of priority cases, waiting lists, successful outcomes, referrals and discharge of service users.
  10. Working with others to provide the effectiveness of service delivery.
  11. Conducting personal development reviews with colleagues.
  12. Setting organizational and personal objectives.
  13. Planning and delivering training sessions.
  14. Contributing to the implementation and evaluation of projects and developments.
  15. Undertaking clinical audit through the collation of statistical, financial and other data relating to service delivery.
  16. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  17. Adhere to all public service codes, rules and regulations.
  18. Performs other related tasks which may be assigned by the job holders Head of Department.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • A Master’s Degree or higher in Speech and Language Pathology
  • Registration as a Speech/Language Pathologist from country of training or origin and possess maintain a current license.

 

Experience

  • The position requires five (5) years’ experience proving therapeutic services.

 

SALARY: Grade 9 - $75,363 per annum plus allowances

For persons recruited outside of the Turks & Caicos Islands a two-year extendable contract is offered. Other benefits in addition to basic salary include a Housing Allowance, End-of contract gratuity of 6%, return passages for a family of up to two children under the age of 18 years, freight cost and duty exemption on personal effects imported within six months of the appointment.
