The Solar Water Heater Sales & Technical Consultant is responsible for driving sales and providing technical support for residential, commercial, and institutional solar water heating systems across Jamaica.

Job Summary

This role requires a strong blend of technical knowledge and sales ability. The successful candidate must be able to confidently explain system design, sizing, performance, and installation requirements while also closing sales and building long-term customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

  • Actively promote and sell solar water heater systems islandwide.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities with homeowners, contractors, developers, hotels, and commercial clients.
  • Conduct site visits and customer consultations to assess needs and recommend suitable systems.
  • Prepare and present quotations, proposals, and system specifications.
  • Negotiate pricing and close sales in line with company targets.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, installers, and industry partners.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate technical advice on solar water heater systems, including:
    • System sizing and capacity calculations.
    • Roof mounting considerations.
    • Plumbing and integration with existing water systems.
    • Performance expectations and energy savings.
  • Explain system operation, maintenance, and warranty terms to customers.
  • Support installers and internal teams with technical guidance when required.
  • Stay up to date on industry standards, local regulations, and best practices for solar water heating in Jamaica.

Market & Administrative Duties

  • Keep accurate records of leads, sales activities, and customer interactions.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer feedback.
  • Assist with marketing initiatives, product demonstrations, and trade shows.
  • Provide regular sales reports and forecasts to management.

Other Duties

  • Perform any other duties assigned from time to time to meet business needs.

Requirements

Technical Requirements

  • Strong technical knowledge of solar water heater systems (flat plate, evacuated tube, thermosiphon systems, etc.).
  • Understanding of basic plumbing, roofing, and installation principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of Jamaican climate considerations and building practices is an advantage.

Sales Requirements

  • Proven experience in technical sales, preferably in renewable energy, construction materials, plumbing, or HVAC.
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, and closing skills.
  • Confident communicator who can explain technical concepts in simple terms.
  • Results-driven with a strong customer-service mindset.

General Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a related technical sales role preferred.
  • Valid Jamaican Driver's Licence and willingness to travel islandwide.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and able to work independently.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications including email, spreadsheets, and CRM systems.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (BSc) in Business Management, Engineering, Renewable Energy, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Technical certifications in Solar Energy, Plumbing, HVAC Systems, or related technical disciplines would be a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, system specifications, and installation plans.
