ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: UNFPA Sub-regional Office for the Caribbean for the English and Dutch Speaking Caribbean  

 

 

Organizational Location

The Sexual and Reproductive Health Officer post is located in Kingston and is under the overall supervision of the Humanitarian Coordinator. S/He will report directly to the Humanitarian SRH Specialist and will provide technical support to the response of hurricane Melissa in the area of Sexual and Reproductive Health. The Officer will work in an integrated manner with other technical and programme staff in the Sub-Regional Office in Jamaica.

Job Purpose
The Sexual and Reproductive Health Officer provides technical and programmatic support in the area of SRHiE programming. The Incumbent will foster partnerships and establish/strengthen advocacy platforms with stakeholders Melissa hurricane response efforts, other United nations entities.

Major Activities/Expected Results

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Humanitarian SRH Specialist and in close collaboration with the Humanitarian Team, the incumbent will:

Programme Implementation

  • Support rapid SRH needs assessments.
  • Assist with procurement, distribution, monitoring and reporting of SRH kits and supplies.
  • Support implementation and monitoring of the SRH humanitarian response, including inputs for SitReps.
  • Promote an integrated SRH response, including ASRH and GBV, with focus on those furthest behind.
  • Strengthen SRH–GBV linkages, including clinical care for survivors of sexual violence.
  • Support transition from MISP to comprehensive, evidence-based SRH services.
  • Support for strengthening SRH preparedness and anticipatory actions activities

Coordination & Partnerships

  • Ensure SRH priorities are reflected in Health Sector coordination and OCHA reporting.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Ministry of Health, Health Sector partners and relevant UN agencies.
  • Liaise with partners to ensure access to SRH services and commodities for crisis-affected populations.
  • Contribute to strengthening partnerships and technical collaboration at national level.

Monitoring, Data & Knowledge

  • Monitor SRH services delivered by implementing partners, including field visits as needed.
  • Monitor project implementation, including implementation rate (IR)
  • Maintain and share data on SRH commodities and programme implementation.
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing platforms, best practices and technical resources.
  • Support analysis, documentation and dissemination of lessons learned on SRH in emergencies.
  • Contribute to development of project updates and report

Work Relations

  • External partners include UN agencies and programme countries; sub regional and international organizations and counterparts on substantive issues including, Government organizations, NGOs, community-based organizations and peer-organizations of vulnerable communities, and research institutions, professional associations (particularly with Midwives Association), and international experts;
  • Internal partners include regional and sub-regional programme and technical staff, and the UNFPA technical network, in ensuring integrated programme and technical support in line with the needs of countries.

Job Requirements - Education:

  • A clinical degree (medecine, midwifery, nursing). A post-graduate diploma/master in public health or a related field is an advantage.
Knowledge and Experience
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in SRH;
  • Experience in humanitarian response is an advantage;
  • Technical leadership, and proven ability to produce demonstrable results;
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills in English;
  • Experience mobilizing key national and regional stakeholders around resource mobilization initiatives and/or joint action; and
  • Familiarity with management and monitoring tools is desirable;
