The Senior Underwriter supports the Risk and Underwriting Manager/GM in achieving company goals by managing underwriting processes, monitoring performance, and providing strategic reports with recommendations to help meet revenue and loss ratio targets.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities 

 

Underwriting

  1.  Undertakes the role of Senior Underwriter; with the ability to appropriately risk assess and write complex risks in all lines of business in accordance with limits of authority
  2.  Provide senior level support, guidance and training to junior level staff as it relates to the effective underwriting of risks
  3.  Assist with processing and follows-up on Renewals to achieve retention target
  4.  Negotiates terms with policyholders and/or intermediaries and specifies conditions to be insured

 Business Development

  1. Actively markets new and existing products and services (to Brokers and other producers) as required to optimize profitable growth by aggressively achieving monthly production targets
  2.  Influences and builds on new and existing Broker relationship(s) in an effort to acquire new business and retain existing (clients/accounts/policies)
  3.  Champions and delivers premier service to internal and external stakeholders in line with the company’s objectives in a professional and courteous manner and solicits feedback on the service level(s)

 Premier Service

  1.  Ensures the achievement of all service standards through process improvement and delivery for both internal and external customers
  2.  Monitors customer satisfaction as well as increased image and reputation
  3.  Actively applies and delivers all PREMIER customer service standards and core beliefs by demonstrating professionalism, promptness, accuracy, courtesy and helpfulness

 Other

  1.  Provides supervision to junior staff in the absence of the Assistant Supervisor
  2.  Performs other duties as assigned from time to time
  3.  Adheres to Anti-money Laundering guidelines
  4.  Provides regular reports to the Senior Underwriting Supervisor as agreed and as required to senior management

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • First degree in Management or a related field
  • Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office packages
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a similar role
  • Any combination of qualifications and relevant experience
