JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Radiographer is required to co-ordinate staff and workload for the area of work within their designated modality, in conjunction with the Regional Manager Radiology Services.    The incumbent will also have direct responsibility for the imaging equipment within their assigned area as well as maintaining the highest possible standards within the Radiology Department.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administers Radiography and/or Ultrasound Services to ensure efficient and effective patient care services and the maintenance of the Authority’s goals and objectives. 
  • Supervises junior staff by assigning and monitoring work, coaching and guiding, identifying standards of performance, completing performance appraisals, performing evaluation for training needs, recommending leave and initiating disciplinary action when necessary. 
  • Oversees the operations of the imaging equipment for CT, MRI, Ultrasound and General X-Ray to guarantee that all equipment is handled correctly and maintained in a safe working order.
  • Assists the Manager, Medical Imaging and Radiology Coordinators in the implementation and monitoring of radiation safety measures to maintain the safety of patients and staff in compliance with local and international regulatory requirements.
  • Makes recommendations in conjunction with the Manager, Medical Imaging and Radiology Coordinators on the operating budget for the assigned sub-specialty.
  • Recommends cost saving methods and supply changes to ensure maximum economic efficiency in the Region’s Radiology Services.
  • Prepares statistical reports/data with regards to Radiography and Ultrasound Services and forwards same to the Manager, Medical Imaging for compilation of statistical reports for the entire Radiology Department.
  • Assists the Radiology Co-ordinator with the preparation of proposals for equipment for Radiography Services
  • Participates in employment interviews.
  • Liaises with the Radiologists to ensure timely patient reporting and service delivery.
  • Monitors the documentation of accidents and complaints within the assigned modality to ensure that steps are taken to prevent recurrence.
  • Assumes overall responsibility for the ordering and control of supplies and equipment within available resources.
  • Participates as part of an active member of the hospital team.
  • Oversees the adherence to practices in keeping with TRHA’s accreditation standards.
  • Adheres to protocols, guidelines, policies and procedures relevant to Accreditation Standards, Public Health, Infection Control, Occupational Health and Safety, Ministry of Heath, Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development, Registering Board/Association and the TRHA.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • A certified Radiographer with a B.Sc. Degree or Diploma in Radiography with experience or equivalent from an accredited institution. 
  • The incumbent must be a qualified Radiographer with at least eight (8) years relevant working experience, three (3) of which must be at a supervisory or managerial level.
  • Training and experience in all sub-specialties would be an asset.
  • Evidence of practical training in Supervisory Management.
  • Qualifications and experience in Management will be an asset.
  • Registration with the Council for the Professions related to Medicine/Radiographers Board of Trinidad and Tobago.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Sound knowledge of current health care legislation and regulations as it relates to Radiology equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of quality improvement strategies and standards setting systems.
  • Sound knowledge in the operation and use of specialties.
  • Demonstrates interest in maintaining professional development i.e. taking additional courses, participation on professional committees, and adherence to professional code of ethics.
  • Sound knowledge of current trends, principles and practices, safety methods and techniques in Radiography Services.
