Senior Optometrist (Guyana)

To ensure the optimum performance of all Optometrists. Measure and review performance versus KPIs. Implement clinical standards and ensure adherence to these standards while overseeing and providing optometric guidance throughout the optical chain.

Position: Senior Optometrist

Purpose: To ensure the optimum performance of all Optometrists. Measure and review performance versus KPIs. Implement clinical standards and ensure adherence to these standards while overseeing and providing optometric guidance throughout the optical chain.

 Key Responsibilities:

• Monthly Branch visits to oversee the Optometrists performance versus clinical expectations.
• Provide monthly performance reviews for all Optometrists versus KPIs and assessment of Clinical standards.
• Prepare quarterly appraisal forms and prepare development feedback to each Optometrist.
• Conduct audit of optical stores to ensures clinical standards are maintained on an ongoing basis.
• Schedule full and approved part-time optometrists on a monthly basis to ensure all branches are covered.
• Assist in developing clinical standards for Courts Optical.
• Fill in when an Optometrist is sick, on vacation or any unforeseen events which prevents an Optometrist showing up for work.
• Address refraction issues through the respective Optical Dispenser/Supervisor when they are brought to your attention.
• Conducts tests to determine if a patient is far-sighted or near-sighted and prescribes corrective eyeglasses, contact lenses or other treatment options like low-vision rehabilitation or vision therapy in helping blind persons.
• Tests for glaucoma and other eye diseases caused by systematic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure and refers patients to an Ophthalmologist if necessary.
• Educates and counsels patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements, safety factors, correct reading habits and good nutrition and hygiene.
• Schedules servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating or fine-tuning of devices and equipment to ensure that results are accurate and ensure preventative maintenance are done on a time basis.
• Ensures that customer receive service that exceeds their expectations to encourage repeat visits.
• Provide monthly training tips and clinical eye care guides for staff.
• Performs any other related duties requested by the Optical Chain Manager.

 Required Qualifications/Experience/Skills:

• BSc. in Optometry from an accredited school accepted within the country operating areas
• A minimum of three (3) years’ supervisory experience
• Knowledge of Optical retail preferred
• Experience with contact lenses will be an asset
• Registered with the Guyana Medical Board and in good standing
