Our client, Colonial Life Insurance Company (Trinidad) Limited (CLICO), is seeking to fill the position of Senior Manager - Internal Audit.

This position is being offered as a two (2) year renewable CONTRACT position.

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Manager, Internal Audit provides independent and objective assurance to the Board and Management, supporting strong governance and effective operations. Reporting functionally to the Board Audit Committee, the role leads a comprehensive internal audit program covering financial, compliance, and performance reviews. The position is responsible for evaluating and improving risk management, control, and governance processes while guiding, training, and supervising the Internal Audit team. The incumbent upholds high ethical standards and supports the Audit Committee in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determines whether the Company’s network of risk management, control, and governance processes, as designed and represented by management, is adequate and functioning in a manner to ensure:

a)      Risks are appropriately identified and managed.

b)      Interaction with the various governance groups occurs as needed.

c)      Significant financial, managerial, and operating information is accurate, reliable, and timely.

d)      Company and Employees’ actions are in compliance with policies, standards, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.

e)      Resources are acquired economically, used efficiently, and adequately protected.

f)       Programs, plans, and objectives are achieved.

g)      Quality and continuous improvement are fostered in the organisation’s control, risk and governance processes.

h)      Significant legislative or regulatory issues impacting the organisation are recognised and addressed appropriately.

  • Provides an annual assessment on the adequacy and effectiveness of the organisation’s processes for controlling its activities and managing its risks.
  • Identifies and recommends opportunities for improving governance, management risk and control systems (policies, procedures and practices), corporate performance, image and integrity; and communicates the same to the appropriate level of management.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of action taken by management to implement recommendations and to correct discrepancies or deficiencies reported by Internal Audit, Regulators and External Auditors. Initiates appropriate follow-up action to persuade/influence management to adopt desired courses of action and assists management in designing plans for implementing the recommendations.
  • Initiates investigations into and/or assists in the investigation of significant suspected fraudulent activities, irregularities of a financial or operational nature and risk control breakdowns within the organisation and notifies the Chief Executive Officer, the Board and the Board Audit Committee of the results.
  • Informs the Chief Executive Officer, the Board and the Board Audit Committee of emerging trends and successful practices in internal auditing. Advises the Directors and Management, orally or in writing, on matters of corporate governance, controls and risk management, including regulatory and best practice requirements.
  • Promotes changes in risk, control and governance processes; and facilitates CLICO’s control/risk/governance self-assessments.
  • Liaises with, and coordinates activities of, external/contract auditors and regulators; considers the scope of work of the external auditors, regulators and in-house security, safety and health officers, to provide optimal audit coverage and assurance to the organisation at a reasonable overall cost.
  • Implements the audit review of contracts and other agreements with outside entities providing goods and services as appropriate, and the review of contractor records and documentation when deemed necessary to ascertain compliance with contracts.
  • Evaluates and assesses significant merging/consolidating functions and new or changing services, processes, operations, systems and control processes coincident with their development, implementation, and/or expansion.
  • Leads the Internal Audit Team and is responsible for their development, by coaching, mentoring, managing performance, and recommending relevant training for their continuous development.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree or Professional Certification in relevant field (such as internal auditing, business management, finance, accounting).
  • Professional Audit Certification (such as Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information System Auditor, Certified Quality Auditor, Certified Fraud Examiner).
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Internal Auditing.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a managerial position.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in all aspects of Auditing, Risk Management, Governance and Controls.
