Senior Investment Associate - Caribbean Community Resilience Fund (CCRF)

Location:

This role will be based at our head office in Kingston, Jamaica; however, we are open to candidates in the Caribbean region and Miami.

About the Role:

Sygnus is recruiting a Senior Investment Associate to join the Caribbean Community Resilience Fund (CCRF) team. This flagship climate fund is dedicated to driving sustainable growth and resilience across the Caribbean by investing in high-impact sectors.

The Senior Investment Associate will play a pivotal role in sourcing, evaluating, and executing equity investment opportunities while contributing to portfolio management and value creation. This position offers significant growth potential, including the opportunity to assume leadership responsibility for equity investment execution in the region over time.

Working closely with colleagues across Jamaica, St. Lucia, Puerto Rico, and Miami, you will be directly involved in developing investment theses, conducting macroeconomic and sector analyses, executing transactions, and engaging stakeholders across the regional and international investment ecosystem.

About the CCRF:

The Caribbean Community Resilience Fund (CCRF) is an expected US$135M blended-finance fund that provides exposure to key impact sectors such as renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture, sustainable housing, financial services, information, and communication technology (ICT), and blue economy. The key objectives of the CCRF are to mitigate and adapt to climate-related and economic shocks that affect the region and to invest in climate solutions to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The CCRF is composed of two sub-funds, a Debt sub-fund and an Equity sub-fund. The Debt sub-fund will focus on investing in economic resilience sectors such as transportation, ICT, access to financing, and sustainable housing. The Equity sub-fund will focus on climate and will provide early-stage catalytic capital in equity and quasi-equity instruments to support climate projects in the areas of renewable energy, blue economy, transportation and e-mobility, and sustainable agriculture.

The CCRF is anchored by the CARICOM Development Fund with a US$15M commitment and supported with technical assistance through the USAID. Sygnus was selected as the Fund Manager in a competitive process based on track record and networks across the Caribbean.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct market, business, impact, and financial analyses to evaluate investment opportunities.
  • Execute in-depth research and market mapping to support the development of investment theses.
  • Source and develop investment opportunities across the Caribbean in alignment with the Fund’s strategy and Investment Policy.
  • Assess and score opportunities for CCRF equity investments, preparing recommendations for Investment Committee review.
  • Support transaction execution, including due diligence, contract negotiations, and legal documentation.
  • Monitor portfolio companies by tracking performance, conducting industry research, and supporting governance, operational, impact, and commercial development initiatives.
  • Identify and engage with regional and international investors, DFIs, banks, and family offices to support co-investments and exit strategies.
  • Lead or support complex commercial and financial negotiations.
  • Develop high-quality client-facing presentations and investment materials.
  • Provide value-creation recommendations to enhance post-investment strategies.
  • Foster strong collaboration within the CCRF team and across the Sygnus Group.

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in Private Equity, Investment Banking, Venture Capital, Development Finance, or a similar investment environment.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related field; advanced qualifications (MBA, MSc Finance, or similar in a quantitative discipline) are an asset.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong quantitative and analytical skills with hands-on experience in investment due diligence, equity valuation, financial modeling, and business model assessment.
  • Deal Execution: Proven ability to support and/or lead due diligence processes, transaction execution, and investment decision-making.
  • Regional Insight: Solid understanding of Caribbean business dynamics, including macroeconomic trends, opportunities, and challenges impacting the region.
  • Impact Orientation: Familiarity with or strong interest in impact investing, particularly in alignment with the Caribbean Community Resilience Fund’s mandate.
  • Stakeholder Management: Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including private equity firms, DFIs, development agencies, and institutional investors.
  • Personal Attributes: Collaborative, resourceful, and self-starter mindset with the ability to thrive in high-performance, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments.
  • Professional Integrity: Demonstrates intellectual rigor, transparency, and openness to learning; comfortable navigating ambiguity and making evidence-based decisions.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, or French is a strong asset.
  • Core Values: High integrity, entrepreneurial drive, innovative mindset, and a strong work ethic.
