Are you a dynamic nursing leader with a passion for workplace health and safety? We are seeking a Senior Industrial Nurse to drive the strategic development and delivery of comprehensive occupational health and wellness programmes across our island-wide operations.

SENIOR INDUSTRIAL NURSE (Contract)

Reporting to the Safety and Occupational Health Manager, the Senior Industrial Nurse is responsible for planning, coordinating, recommending, and implementing comprehensive occupational health and wellness programmes for employees’ island-wide. The role ensures the delivery of effective nursing, diagnostic, and clinical services in support of employee health, safety, productivity, and regulatory compliance. The position has operational responsibility for the management of the Wellness Centre and plays a key role in the development and implementation of health education and prevention programmes aimed at reducing absenteeism, occupational illness, and workplace accidents.

KEY Responsibilities Include:

  • Assisting in the development and implementation of the organization’s occupational health policies, procedures, and programmes;
  • Managing the delivery of health services across the organization;
  • Developing and implementing employee health programmes such as health education, accident prevention, substance abuse awareness, and family life education;
  • Providing or arranging first aid and emergency nursing care to employees in cases of injury or illness;
  • Liaising with the Divisional Safety Coordinator to record workplace accidents and illnesses and preparing required reports;
  • Coordinating with employees, families, and medical professionals to facilitate convalescent, rehabilitative, and follow-up care;
  • Arranging medical board examinations to assess employee fitness for continued service, where required;
  • Coordinating annual medical examinations for eligible categories of employees;
  • Providing advice and education to employees on health, hygiene, and occupational health hazards through lectures, presentations, and other awareness activities;
  • Conducting hospital and home visits to employees who are ill or injured, as appropriate;
  • Travelling island-wide to assess health service needs and recommending improvements to employee healthcare delivery systems;
  • Ensuring adequate supply, safe storage, and proper management of medications, medical supplies, and equipment;
  • Establishing and managing duty rosters and work schedules for nursing and clinical support staff;
  • Representing the Commission at meetings, conferences, and forums relating to occupational health and wellness.

 

            Required Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent professional nursing qualification from an accredited institution;
  • Specialized training in Public Health and Industrial Nursing;
  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) designation from the Nursing Council of Jamaica (NCJ);
  • Training or certification in management or health services administration;
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ experience in general nursing, with at least (2) years in an Industrial Environment;       
  • Proficiency in the use of medical instruments and equipment for diagnostic, monitoring, and clinical nursing applications;
  • Strong knowledge of counselling techniques and employee wellness support;
  • Working knowledge of computer applications relevant to clinical records, reporting, and administration;
  • Familiarity with community and public health practices, particularly as they relate to workplace health promotion and disease prevention;
  • Knowledge of occupational health hazards and industrial nursing practices;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
