Role Overview:
The Senior Governance Analyst supports business units through internal and external audits by assessing risks, controls, and remediation actions. The role manages end-to-end deficiency remediation, including action planning, validation, and sustainability testing, to ensure risks are effectively mitigated. Working closely with stakeholders, the incumbent strengthens risk management practices and enhances the overall control environment.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supports pre-audit readiness by reviewing prior audit findings, risk indicators, and issue logs to identify deficiencies and drive remediation actions.
- Assists with audit reviews before, during, and after fieldwork by partnering with auditors, challenging findings, and supporting root-cause analysis and remediation planning.
- Reviews and assesses existing controls to determine whether preventive and detective controls are adequate to mitigate identified risks.
- Develops and tracks remediation action plans, ensuring clear documentation, business line engagement, and timely closure of issues.
- Performs validation and sustainability testing to confirm remediation has been effectively implemented and risks have been reduced to acceptable levels.
- Prepares regular status reports for stakeholders and escalates overdue or at-risk items to support accountability and timely resolution.
- Conducts risk gap analysis and provides guidance on mitigation plans in line with applicable policies, standards, regulations, and industry requirements.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, Accounting, or related field.
- Relevant professional certification in risk, audit, or compliance is an asset.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in governance, audit, operational risk, compliance, or internal controls.
- Demonstrated experience supporting audits (internal/external), managing deficiencies, and driving remediation to closure.
- Strong knowledge of risk and control frameworks, including control design, testing, and validation.
- Working knowledge of financial services regulatory requirements (e.g., operational risk, credit risk, AML/ATF).
- Proven ability to conduct root-cause analysis, assess control effectiveness, and monitor sustainability of remediation.
- Experience preparing executive-level reports and tracking risk remediation progress.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
