Position Title: Senior Electrical/Instrument Technician
Position reports to: Electrical & Instrument Supervisor
Job Summary
Reporting to the Electrical and Instrument Supervisor, the Senior Electrical/Instrument Technician is generally accountable for the installation, testing, repair, trouble-shooting and maintenance of all instruments and electrical equipment associated with the Power Station. These functions must be carried out in accordance with accepted Codes of Practice and Safety rules. The position is additionally accountable for effecting the required supervision over junior technical staff in the discharge of their electrical/instrument duties and responsibilities.
Position Profile
The Electrical and Instrument maintenance function at CLIENT’s site is configured in a manner as to permit increasingly complex E&I maintenance activities to be performed by maintenance personnel whose theoretical and practical knowledge was gained through successively increasing levels of experience. The Senior Electrical/Instrument Technician is substantively responsible for effecting testing, trouble-shooting, installation and repair work on the plant’s electrical and instrument systems to give maximum plant performance and reliability at all times. The position is expected to operate with a great degree of independence in the discharge of its substantive duties but provides supervision and guidance to junior electrical/instrument craftsmen on assigned job activities. The position of Senior Electrical/Instrument Technician draws its expertise from a combination of practical and theoretical knowledge gained via successively increasing levels of prior experience or through certified academic or technical training at the postsecondary level of educational delivery. The position exercises delegated financial authority and requires moderate human relations skills to treat with human resource and other resource management issues internal and external to the company.
Principal Accountabilities
1. Installs, services, tests, calibrates and repairs all instruments for
measuring, recording, controlling, positioning and other functions.
2. Inspects, tests, measures and records various parameters for electrical
equipment and wiring on generating plant and equipment.
3. Intalls and/or maintains electrical equipment including motors, alternators,
starters and associated equipment, switchgear transformers, brushgear on
rotating equipment, batteries, air conditioners and cranes.
4. Installs, services, calibrates and repairs all instruments, protection relays, electrical and electronic equipment.
5. Installs, services, tests, calibrates and repairs all supervisory equipment monitoring bearing vibration, shaft eccentricity, expansion and other quantities.
6. Installs, services, calibrates and repairs all transmitters, relays, electrical and electronic circuits.
7. Troubleshoots systems associated with instrumentation e.g. control loops, pneumatic, electronic and electrical controlled systems.
8. Provides supervision to junior electrical/instrument craftsmen and assists in the training of such junior craftsmen.
9. Ensures that all test and safety equipment are in good condition.
