Position Overview

NES Fircroft invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Senior Electrical Technician. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing effective preventive and corrective maintenance on plant control systems, electrical equipment, and other company assets. All work must align with manufacturer specifications, industry‑standard electrical practices, and directives from the Plant Production Manager or designate.


Key Responsibilities

Electrical Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform competent and cost‑effective preventive and corrective maintenance on all rotating and stationary electrical equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Independently execute all levels of electrical preventive maintenance on generating units and plant auxiliary equipment.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of electrical spare parts for generation units and supporting electrical systems; recommend required inventory to management.
  • Apply advanced understanding of theoretical and operating principles for electrical equipment used in diesel‑fired operations and support the technical development of junior team members.
  • Prepare detailed job reports and failure analysis documentation.
  • Utilize proper tooling during repairs; maintain and safeguard all tools and electrical repair equipment.

Technical Operations & Fabrication

  • Operate shop tools as required for fabrication, welding, soldering, cutting, drilling, and related tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including inventory tracking.

Health, Safety & Operational Excellence

  • Demonstrate leadership in ensuring full compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety policies during all maintenance activities.
  • Recommend data‑driven improvements in maintenance techniques, processes, and tooling to enhance plant efficiency.
  • Remain available to respond to emergencies outside regular working hours as required.

Qualifications & Experience

Education & Certifications

  • Completion of NCCER Electrical Level 1–4 (or equivalent), plus a minimum of 10 years’ industrial experience in diesel generating station operations, maintenance, and repair.
  • An Associate’s degree (or equivalent) in an electrical engineering field may be accepted as an equivalent qualification.
  • Completion of NCCER Crew Leadership Program or other recognized supervisory/leadership training.

Technical Expertise

  • Strong experience in diagnostics, troubleshooting, and all levels of maintenance/repair for large generation units, particularly Wärtsilä 20V32 and Caterpillar 3600 Series engines.
  • Significant experience with computers, PLCs, and standard software used in engineering, reporting, and maintenance management.
  • Proven competency in high‑voltage installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Strong analytical aptitude in mathematics and diesel engine principles.
  • Excellent ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manuals.
  • High proficiency in written and spoken English.
