Role Summary: 

Our client, who operates in the banking and finance sector, is seeking a Senior Data Governance Analyst who will play an integral role in the execution of enterprise data governance framework and supports management and the team tasked with the primary responsibility for enterprise-wide data governance activities. The incumbent is responsible for monitoring and maintaining a robust data governance environment primarily through data risk assessments and ensuring the timely assignment and remediation of data incidents. The incumbent is the liaison between data governance team and business unit data stewards, ensuring that data management policies and procedures are communicated and embedded within business units.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Administers the Enterprise Data Governance programme by creating processes in support of data management practices to ensure compliance with the organisations and management policies.
  2. Reviews data management practices in collaboration with other team members to ensure that the business is both aware of developments and operates within the enterprise Data Governance framework. This will include making recommendations to management on any updates that are required to processes, policies or business activities.
  3. Analyse the effectiveness of data management processes and procedures in the technology unit and other business units.
  4. Conducts monitoring of adherence data management processes to ensure compliance with regulatory authorities and data management standards.
  5. Develops and maintains key effective relationships with unit leaders, data owners’ stewards and custodians ensuring that there is clarity and consistency in methodology and practices for data management and governance throughout the organisation
  6. Assists management and accountable officers in assessing data risks arising from all projects, products and change initiatives impacting business units to ensure that material risks are appropriately identified and mitigated.
  7. Provides support to data owners and stewards responsible for resolving data incidents under their purview and developing achievable action plans with realistic due dates to ensure that data incidents are remediated within agreed timeframes.
  8. Monitors and tracks Data Incidents by attending weekly or monthly meetings to ensure that action plan owners are executing remedial actions as scheduled.

Minimum qualifications & experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in quantitative areas such as Computer Science or Information Technology
  • 7 – 10 years banking experience, with a proven background in governance and control functions including, KCARs, SOX and quarterly assertion processes
  • Good understanding of end-to-end banking process flows to be able to develop controls in the context of new process development and providing a good basis for identifying risk and the absence of control.
  • Knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data management.
  • Experience in risk management, control testing, remediation management and reporting.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Desired Behaviours Required: 

  • Demonstrated consulting skills, inclusive of change management concepts and strategies and performance measurement design.
  • In-depth understanding of process improvement, risk, control, and deficiency management
  • Strong communication skills and proven experience presenting data-driven recommendations to executive and senior leadership audiences resulting in understanding and buy-in.
  • Understanding of data environments and Technical documentation skills
  • Ability thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
