Senior Automotive Mechanic – Modern ICE, HEV, PHEV & EV Systems
Role Overview
We’re seeking a highly skilled Senior Automotive Mechanic with deep expertise in diagnosing and repairing modern internal combustion engines, transmissions, advanced electronic control systems, and electrified powertrains including hybrid (HEV), plug‑in hybrid (PHEV), and full electric vehicles (EV). This role is ideal for a technician who thrives on complex problem‑solving, stays current with evolving automotive technologies, and can lead by example in a fast‑paced workshop environment.
🔧 Key Responsibilities
- Perform major engine repairs and overhauls on gasoline and diesel vehicles, including timing systems, cylinder head work, fuel systems, and internal component replacement.
- Perform repairs to automatic, CVT, DCT, DHT, and manual transmissions and drivetrains.
- Diagnose and repair advanced electronic systems, including CAN‑bus networks, ECUs, sensors, ADAS components, and vehicle communication modules.
- Conduct high‑voltage system diagnostics and repairs on HEV, PHEV, and BEV platforms, including:
- Battery pack evaluation, cell repair and replacement, and service
- Inverter and converter systems
- Electric drive motors
- High‑voltage safety procedures
- Use OEM‑level diagnostic tools, scan equipment, and software to identify faults and perform programming, coding, and module initialization.
- Experience with network diagnostics, oscilloscope usage, and parasitic draw testing.
- Lead complex troubleshooting efforts and provide technical guidance to junior technicians.
- Perform preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and performance assessments across all vehicle types.
- Maintain compliance with high‑voltage safety protocols, environmental regulations, and manufacturer repair standards.
- Document all work performed with accuracy and clarity in digital service systems.
- Support continuous improvement in workshop processes, quality control, and customer satisfaction.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 7–10 years professional experience as an automotive technician, including major engine repair.
- Proven expertise with modern vehicle electronics, diagnostics, and module programming.
- Hands‑on experience with HEV, PHEV, and BEV systems, including high‑voltage safety certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong understanding of:
- Powertrain management systems
- High‑voltage architecture
- Regenerative braking systems
- Thermal management for batteries and inverters
- Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, technical service bulletins, and OEM repair procedures.
- Proficiency with advanced diagnostic tools (OEM and aftermarket).
- Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
- Valid automotive technician certifications (ASE, OEM, BEV/Hybrid certifications preferred).
- Experience with Japanese, Korean, European, or Chinese platforms (Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai/Kia, BYD, GAC, Chery, Great Wall, VW, BMW, Mercedes, etc.) is an asset.
- Must be able to communicate clearly in English (written and verbal).
