POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Asset Trader is a strategic trading professional responsible for executing high-valuetransactions across multiple asset classes including foreign exchange (cambio), fixed income securities (government and corporate bonds), repurchase agreements (repos), and collectivei nvestment schemes (CIS funds). This role requires sophisticated market knowledge, advanced
trading expertise, strong client relationship management skills, and the ability to generate profitable trading opportunities while maintaining strict compliance with FSC regulations, Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) directives, and internal risk management policies. The Senior Asset Trader will play a key role in portfolio optimization, liquidity management, and revenue generation forthe firm.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Foreign Exchange (Cambio) Trading
• Execute foreign exchange transactions for institutional and retail clients in compliance with Bank of Jamaica cambio regulations and FSC requirements
• Monitor global and regional FX markets, analyze currency trends, and identify profitable trading opportunities
• Manage USD/JMD, GBP/JMD, CAD/JMD, EUR/JMD, and other currency pair positions within approved limits
• Provide competitive bid/ask spreads to clients while maintaining profitability targets
• Execute spot, forward, and swap transactions as authorized by the firm's license
• Maintain relationships with correspondent banks and foreign exchange counterparties
• Monitor FX exposure and implement hedging strategies to minimize currency risk
2. Fixed Income (Bond) Trading
• Participate in BOJ auctions and competitive bidding for government securities
• Analyze yield curves, interest rate movements, duration, and credit spreads to identify value opportunities
• Execute buy/sell orders for clients and proprietary accounts while optimizing portfolio performance
• Monitor local and international fixed income markets, central bank policies, and
macroeconomic indicators
• Build and maintain trading relationships with institutional investors, pension funds, insurance companies, and other market participants
• Provide pricing, market intelligence, and investment recommendations to clients and portfolio managers
3. Repurchase Agreement (Repo) Sales & Trading
• Structure, negotiate, and execute repurchase agreements (repos and reverse repos) forshort-term liquidity management
• Price repo transactions competitively based on collateral quality, maturity, and prevailing market rates
• Manage the firm's repo book, including monitoring collateral, margin requirements, and settlement obligations
• Ensure all repo transactions comply with JSE repo market conventions and FSC
collateral management guidelines
• Optimize the firm's short-term funding costs and investment of excess cash through strategic repo positioning
• Coordinate with operations and compliance teams to ensure proper documentation, settlement, and regulatory reporting
4. Collective Investment Schemes (CIS) / Mutual Funds Trading
• Execute buy and sell orders for collective investment schemes (mutual funds, unit trusts,money market funds) on behalf of clients
• Monitor performance of local and regional CIS products and provide recommendations aligned with client investment objectives
• Maintain current knowledge of fund prospectuses, investment mandates, fees, and regulatory filings
• Coordinate with fund administrators and custodians to ensure timely execution and settlement of CIS transactions
• Educate clients on fund features, risk profiles, historical performance, and suitability assessments
• Track fund NAV (Net Asset Value) movements and redemption/subscription activity to anticipate market trends
5. Risk Management & Position Monitoring
• Monitor real-time trading positions, market exposure, and profit/loss across all asset classes
• Ensure all trades remain within authorized position limits, concentration limits, and risk appetite parameters
• Perform daily mark-to-market valuations and stress testing of portfolio holdings
• Implement stop-loss strategies and hedging techniques to mitigate downside risk
• Report significant market movements, losses, or breaches of trading limits immediately to management
• Collaborate with the Risk Management team to refine risk models, scenario analysis, and Value-at-Risk (VaR) calculations
6. Client Relationship Management & Advisory
• Build and maintain strong relationships with high-net-worth individuals, institutional clients, and corporate treasury departments
• Provide tailored trade execution services and bespoke investment solutions based on client mandates
• Deliver real-time market updates, pricing quotes, and trade confirmations with
exceptional client service
• Respond to client inquiries on market conditions, product features, settlement timelines, and regulatory requirements
• Cross-sell securities products and generate new business opportunities through
proactive client engagement
7. Compliance, Regulatory Reporting & Trade Documentation
• Ensure all trading activities comply with FSC regulations, JSE rules, BOJ directives, and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements
• Complete accurate trade tickets, confirmations, and settlement instructions for all transactions
• Submit timely regulatory reports including trade reports to the JSE, FX transaction reports to BOJ, and suspicious activity reports (SARs)
• Maintain detailed audit trails and documentation to support internal and external audits
• Adhere to best execution policies, conflict of interest management, and fair dealing principles
• Participate in compliance training, policy reviews, and regulatory examinations as required
8. Team Collaboration & Mentorship
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior traders, trading assistants, and new hires
• Collaborate with portfolio managers, investment analysts, sales teams, and operations to deliver integrated client solutions
• Share market intelligence, trading strategies, and best practices across the trading desk
• Participate in team meetings, strategy sessions, and contribute to continuous
improvement initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field (required)
• Master's degree in Finance, MBA, or professional certifications such as CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), CISI (Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment), or FRM (Financial Risk Manager) (strongly preferred)
Licensing & Regulatory Requirements
• Must hold or be eligible to obtain Securities Dealer Representative license from theFinancial Services Commission (FSC) of Jamaica (mandatory)
• Registration with the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE) as an approved trader (required
within 90 days of hire)
• Bank of Jamaica cambio license knowledge and familiarity with BOJ FX regulations(preferred)
Experience
• Minimum 2 years of progressive trading experience in securities, fixed income, foreign exchange, or capital markets
• Proven track record of profitable trading with demonstrated P&L responsibility
• Extensive experience trading Jamaican government bonds, corporate bonds, and money market instruments
• Strong background in foreign exchange trading, particularly USD/JMD and regional currency pairs
• Experience with repo transactions, liquidity management, and short-term funding strategies
• Familiarity with CIS products, mutual fund structures, and investment fund distribution
(preferred)
Technical Skills & Market Knowledge
• Expert knowledge of fixed income analytics including duration, convexity, yield-to-maturity, and credit analysis
• Advanced understanding of foreign exchange markets, currency valuation models, and FX derivatives
• Proficiency with trading platforms (Bloomberg Terminal, Reuters Eikon, proprietary trading systems)
• Strong Excel modeling skills for scenario analysis, pricing models, and portfolio
optimization
• Deep understanding of Jamaican capital markets, BOJ monetary policy, and regional economic trends
• Familiarity with risk management frameworks, VaR methodologies, and stress testing
• Knowledge of settlement systems (RTGS, Jamaica Central Securities Depository -JCSD)
