The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and supporting the accounting function, including financial reporting, reconciliations, regulatory compliance, taxation, and audit support, while ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and company policies.

KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, financial reports, cash flow reports, and supporting schedules for internal review and Head Office circulation.
  • Support the preparation of quarterly and annual financial returns, Board/subcommittee reports, and other management reports.
  • Prepare, review, and analyse financial records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with IFRS and company standards.
  • Support timely group reporting, inter-company reporting, and financial analysis to assist management decision-making.
  • Review journal entries, expense classifications, and general ledger postings to ensure accuracy and proper accounting treatment.
  • Prepare and/or review journals relating to depreciation, payroll, amortisation, accruals, adjustments, and other accounting entries.
  • Prepare and review bank reconciliations, sub-ledger reconciliations, intercompany reconciliations, and assigned account reconciliations.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual regulatory and statutory reports, that is, IAJ, FSC and BOJ reports.
  • Prepare statutory filings, withholding tax returns, corporation tax computations, quarterly tax instalments, and stamp duties.
  • Ensure all regulatory, tax, and statutory submissions are accurate, complete, properly supported, and filed within required deadlines.
  • Prepare and review audit schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external audits
  • Effectively manage and enhance employee performance by setting clear expectations (SMART goals) and monitoring progress through monthly check-ins and providing constructive feedback.
  • Conduct Performance evaluations.
  • Foster continuous development through targeted learning opportunities and personalized growth plans.
  • Actively engage in coaching to build capability, improve skills, and empower employees to achieve individual and organizational goals.

KEY TECHNICAL COMPENTENCIES:
  • Strong understanding of accounting standards (IFRS) and financial reporting requirements.
  • Ability to prepare and review management accounts, statutory reports, and financial statements.
  • Preparation and review of complex reconciliations (bank, inter-company, sub-ledgers).
  • Knowledge of tax requirements (VAT, corporate tax) and regulatory reporting obligations.
  • Ability to support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Understanding of audit processes, internal controls, and compliance frameworks.
  • Ensures high accuracy and reliability of financial data and reporting.
  • Ensure financial data is accurate, complete, and properly reviewed. Maintains high standards of quality in all outputs.
  • Prioritizes tasks and meets deadlines, particularly during reporting cycles. Able to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Handles financial information with confidentiality and adheres to company policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accouting or related field.
  • Completed ACCA Level 2 or above.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in an accounting or finance role. 
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity.
