Job Summary: |
The Senior Accountant supports the preparation of financial statements that adhere to regulatory and accounting guidelines. Working under the guidance of the Financial Controller plays a crucial role in identifying and rectifying discrepancies while assisting in the establishment of effective internal control systems. This role oversees the accounting team, coordinates performance reviews and training, and ensures compliance with internal controls. The Senior Accountant ensures that the company’s accounting and financial processes meet established standards, promoting accurate financial reporting and effective control. Assists the Financial Controller with the formulation and operation of the accounting system, preparing budgetary and financial reports, financial statements, annual budgets, as well as conducting internal audits. |
Principal Duties & Responsibilities: |
Assisting in Management of Accounting Team - General oversight of the department and provide guidance to senior staff in matters of employee performance management, training and development.
- Work with the accounting team to create internal controls and policies
- Collaborating with the ICT Team to maintain financial records and system processes.
- Ensures that regular on-going communication occurs with employees to create awareness of business objectives, communicate expectations, and recognize performance.
- Participates in the employee performance appraisal process, providing feedback as needed.
- Manage the appraisal cycle for the department ensuring required processes are conducted effectively in a timely manner
- Lead in the development of training plans for each employee and monitor progress
- Ensures disciplinary procedures and documentations are completed according to FSC’s policies
- Monitor employee compliance with FSC employee polices in relations to leaves and absences, create and monitor vacation schedule.
Budget Management & Reporting - Lead and assist Directors in the preparation of annual budgets
- Preparation and monitoring of the department’s annual workplan
- Prepare and analyze budget performance reports on quarterly basis
- Summarize monthly financial reports of the FSC (including BCCAR) and IMMARBE
- Ensure that weekly Cash Flows are reviewed and submitted to FC
- Review and update FSC’s Chart of Accounts to ensure continued relevance to the operations of the FSC, BCCAR & IMMARBE.
Managing Projects , Policies - Lead in the updating, monitoring and evaluation of the department SOPs including Fixed Assets, building maintenance and vehicle fleet.
- Review and update department structure and job descriptions to ensure they remain relevant to strategic objectives of the FSC.
- Assist in the revision and upgrade of the IMMARBE accounting system providing ongoing support and monitoring.
- Assist in the revision and upgrade of the BCCAR accounting and reporting procedures providing ongoing support and monitoring.
- Assist the FC in managing special projects as assigned
Auditing - Establishing and maintaining internal controls
- Assist the FC controller with preparation or annual audits (FSC, BCCAR, IMMARBE)
- Conduct comprehensive audits of financial records, procedures, and transactions to verify accuracy and adherence to company policies.
- Determine compliance with policies and procedures. Assess the quality of internal controls. Evaluate the quality of risk management.
Asset Management - Establish and maintain a proper Fixed Asset management system for the FSC
- Develops and recommends policies and procedures regarding fixed asset management, and ensures proper documentation for each step in the process
- Implements and maintains a fixed asset inventory process, including recommendations for disposals of fixed assets, useful life assignment, and depreciation schedules.
- Oversight of fixed asset ensuring compliance to policies and procedures
- Assist with monitoring and maintenance of FSC buildings and other assets
Other: - Any other duties and responsibilities as may be needed from time to time in context with the job and in relation to the functions of the FSC.

Education/Working Experience: |
Education: - A bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field;
Experience: - 5+ years of relevant work experience in public/private accounting (preferred);
- 3 + years’ experience in senior role
- Ability to work with computer and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and knowledge of spreadsheet, QuickBooks and database packages;
