Senior Accountant

Applications are invited to fill one (1) position of

Senior Accountant

(on 1 year contract)

 

Department: Finance, Grayson Courtyard, #24 Estate Trace, Off 6th Avenue, Barataria

Reports to:    President 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provides accounting expertise to the strategic planning process
  2. Directs the activities of the Accounting Unit including managing, training and supervising the staff therein
  3. Establishes and maintains accounting systems and procedures.
  4. Oversees the preparation of monthly financial statements and other reports for submission to the President, Board of Governors, and Ministry with responsibility for the Institute.
  5. Manages preparation of annual financial statements.
  6. Manages the budgetary process including preparation of the Annual Draft Estimates.
  7. Ensures as far as possible that the organisation’s cash is managed with safeguards to protect against fraud and misuse.
  8. Manages the procurement process
  9. Ensures compliance with the International Accounting Standards as well as other relevant laws, regulations, standards and procedures.
  10. Liaises with the President, Heads of Departments, Institute’s Bankers, Auditor General, relevant Ministry officials and other stakeholders in the performance of duties.
  11. Performs any other related duties as required.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Professional Accounting certification such as ACCA (Level III), CIMA or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and eight (8) years relevant experience
  • Experience with public sector accounting will be an asset

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong leadership, managerial and team development capabilities
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of Accounting
  • Considerable knowledge of Government’s financial regulations, policies, and accounting practices and procedures
  • Appreciation and understanding of International Accounting Standards
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skill
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skill
  • Ability to work collaboratively with local, regional and international agencies
  • High level of integrity
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office (particularly MS Excel) and accounting software packages
