A growing retail company is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to lead our accounting team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, complemented by a proven record in finance, enabling them to spearhead the day-to-day accounting operations and broader financial planning initiatives.  

The Accountant’s responsibility is to ensure the accurate recording of transactions and provide information to internal and external customers on a timely basis. The incumbent will maintain relationships with external auditors, regulators and statutory bodies to ensure legal compliance. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Full Cycle Accounting: including review of A/P, A/R, Inventory, Month End/Year End close with supporting schedules and journal entries, and reconciliations.  
  • Financial Reporting: Including preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual management reports and financial statements 
  • Payroll: Including processing payroll, payroll and its related costs reconciliation 
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets, forecasts, and financial models. 
  • Audit & Compliance: Support internal and external audits, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and company policies. 
  • Financial Analysis: Provide insights into financial performance, trends, and variances to support strategic decision-making. 
  • Internal Controls: Ensure compliance with financial policies, controls and procedures 
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with operations, HR, and other departments to ensure financial alignment and support cross-functional initiatives. 
  • Handle any government audit or information requests 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a minor in Finance, ACCA Level II or equivalent 
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills 
  • Proficiency in Sage 300 would be an advantage 
  • Excellent communication skills, and interpersonal skills
