The Sanitation Lead is responsible for the verification of the cleanliness of the equipment and facilities, including the management of chemical dilutions and usage, proper waste disposal and to ensure that all Standard operating procedures are adhered to, and corrective actions are completed.

Main Function:

The Sanitation Lead oversees all sanitation activities in the poultry processing plant to ensure compliance with regulatory, food safety, and company standards. The role is responsible for the verification of the cleanliness of the equipment and facilities, including the management of chemical dilutions and usage, proper waste disposal and to ensure that all Standard operating procedures are adhered to, and corrective actions are completed. The Sanitation Lead, along with the QMS Manager- IPP is the primary liaison between the CB and the contracted sanitation company.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the cleaning and sanitation of all plant equipment to ensure conformity to local regulatory requirements, to begin processing on time
  • Ensure and enforce the proper cleaning and sanitizing of all processing equipment, floors, walls, drains, tools, and product contact surfaces according to Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS).
  • Complete and sign Sanitation Verification Checklists every night
  • Complete pre-operational inspections to validate cleanliness before Public Health assessment and walkthrough
  • Oversee Team Member performance and ensure all new team members are properly trained on the safe handling of chemicals, cleaning procedures, PPE use and best handling practices of all equipment
  • Work closely with Environmental Health, Safety and QMS Managers to ensure the Company’s safety policies are enforced
  • Verify chemical inventory and dilution for cleaning
  • Ensure that all SOPs are being followed and update documents if required
  • Conduct routine inspections of premises for unsanitary practices and conditions
  • Reports all issues to QMS Manager – IPP and Plant Manager within 3 hours of problem arising and ensure root cause analysis documentation is prepared, and advise of any non-conformances
  • Support environmental monitoring and swabbing programs.
  • Manage all CB sanitation related resources.

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in sanitation (preferably food processing, poultry or meat).
  • 1+ year of supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Excel, word)
  • Post-secondary in Food Science, Environmental Health, or related field is an asset.

Knowledge of:

  • HACCP and GMPs
  • Cleaning chemicals and equipment (Chemical dilutions, foaming units, etc.)
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to troubleshoot and prioritize tasks under pressure
