We are looking for a Safety Officer to join our Team!

Position Summary

The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective operation of all machinery, equipment, and general facilities across the H&L network. This role involves planning, organizing, and supervising safety initiatives to guarantee a safe work environment and optimal productivity, while implementing and enforcing safe work practices in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct ongoing reviews of operations and processes to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend appropriate control measures, including associated implementation costs.
  • Investigate workplace accidents and injuries and refer findings to the relevant authorities as required.
  • Document, monitor, and track incident reports, corrective actions, and related costs.
  • Ensure all employees are aware of and comply with OSHA requirements.
  • Provide OSHA training to employees when necessary.
  • Document and track Jamaica Fire Brigade reports and prepare facilities for inspection.
  • Manage fire safety equipment certification, including fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, alarm systems, fire hoses, and related equipment.
  • Manage Factories Act Certification (FAC) for applicable locations.
  • Oversee certification of all Material Handling Equipment (MHEs), compressors, and other machinery in accordance with FAC requirements.
  • Promote and support company-wide safety initiatives.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, fire drills, and earthquake drills.

 

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, occupational health and safety, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Awareness of Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
