Safety, Health & Environment Officer

Reporting to the Safety, Health and Environmental Manager, the SHE Officer is responsible for supporting work environment review, evaluation and analysis. The incumbent will support designing programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent diseases or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors across all CBL locations.

Major Responsibilities

1. Regulatory Compliance & SHE Management
   • Support inspections, audits, and investigations to ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental (SHE) regulations and company policies.
   • Monitor and implement legislative changes, manage regulatory body interactions, and ensure timely submission of required reports and license renewals.
   • Assist in the development, revision, and enforcement of SHE policies, procedures, SOPs, and emergency response plans.
2. Safety Oversight & Risk Management
   • Conduct site inspections, risk assessments, accident investigations, and compliance checks for PPE, hazardous materials, and workplace conditions.
   • Monitor SHE performance, analyze safety data to identify trends, and drive continuous improvement through corrective actions and recommendations.
   • Coordinate safety programs such as fire prevention, safety equipment readiness, and project-specific safety planning.
3. Training, Awareness & Stakeholder Engagement
   • Support SHE-related training, onboarding, and competency-building initiatives in partnership with HR & Communications.
   • Lead monthly toolbox talks, publish safety bulletins, and promote a culture of safety across the organization.
   • Ensure alignment and communication with internal stakeholders on health and safety measures.

Academic qualifications and experience required

•  Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Occupational Safety Health & Environmental Management, Science or Engineering discipline
• At least 2 years of experience in Occupational Health Safety & Environmental Management in a manufacturing or distribution environment
• Comprehensive knowledge of the local environmental and safety legislations and regulations including the Factories Act, NRCA Act, Public Health Act and any other relevant regulation
• Must own or operate a reliable motor vehicle as well as have a valid Jamaican driver's license for atleast one year
