SENIOR NETWORK ENGINEER

Applications are invited from persons with suitable qualifications to fill the position of “Senior Network Engineer-Infrastructure Support” at the Group Technology Support Division.

The jobholder is responsible for the following:

• To manage, monitor, maintain, install, configure, upgrade, patch and troubleshoot the Bank’s data and voice-communications networks, which the Bank’s Branches and financial applications (Teller, Internet Banking, Point-of-Sale, ABM, etc.) rely on to deliver financial services to customers throughout the territories we operate in
• To provide technical assistance, guidance, and support to other staff who work with these critical core banking network systems, within the RFHL group.
• To lead and support project work related to these critical core banking systems and major network infrastructure upgrades.
• Cloud Infrastructure:
  • Manage the setup and maintenance of the Cloud network infrastructure with reliable/redundant/diverse/secure data network connections between RBL and respective Cloud services.
  • Manage and Setup of the security appliances (Firewalls, monitoring and alerts, reporting) in the Cloud environments.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• To manage and monitor the utilization and performance of the Bank’s various data-related telecommunications facilities and plan for either their expansion based on growth/increased utilization or to remove services where there is under-utilization.
• To manage and provide technical guidance for the installation, configuration and administration of   key IT infrastructural systems such as Firewalls, Routers, Switches, Network Load Balancers, etc. and IT-related systems using UNIX, Linux, Windows, and other proprietary operating systems.
• To ensure all network related systems are kept up to date with patches to maintain compliance.
• The maintenance of system passwords for routers, firewalls and other critical network-related systems.
• To liaise with Telecommunications and internet Service Providers on the timely installation, removal, and repair of data circuits, escalating within these service providers or internally as required where critical circuits are affected.
• To independently research and recommend ways the Bank can improve its performance and service and reduce its operating cost via communications technology. To evaluate vendors, new solutions, and new equipment.

• To manage the planning, execution, support and monitoring of functions involving the Bank projects and the Bank’s data network.  This includes providing technical input and attending site/project meetings and briefing colleagues on on-going projects and issues.

• To develop, test, implement, and document data and voice-systems required to support projects proposed by the Bank.
• To work with the migration team to plan and migrate the on-premise applications to the Cloud.
• To keep abreast of technology and global standards relating to computer, network security and communications systems.
• To provide on-call support outside of normal working hours, including weekends and public-holidays. Support may also be required outside of the on-call periods.
• To develop the BCP Network failover strategy and document all activities required for successful switchover.
• To provide guidance, coaching and mentorship to other technical resources.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• 3 Years’ experience in a networked environment working with Network Technologies such as Routing, Switching, Load Balancing, Ethernet standards, WAN, SD-WAN, LAN, TCP/IP, VOIP, Routing protocols (BGP, OSPF etc.), Firewalls, Access Control List (ACL), Network Address Translation (NAT), Port Address Translation (PAT), MPLS, Multicast, GRE, VPN, packet capture/analysis, and Cloud (AWS, Azure).
• B.Sc. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering.
• A strong understanding of Banking processes, products, and services.
• Knowledge of the Bank’s computer systems, policies, and procedures.
• Experience in testing software applications for network impact.
• Understanding of programming/scripting tools e.g.  Python, C++
• Knowledge of test automation frameworks and monitoring tools e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Grafana, PRTG, etc.
• Understanding of the software development life cycle.
• Experience in creating test plans, test scripts and conducting end-to-end testing.
• Experience in managing external DNS (Godaddy etc.) and purchasing/renewing certificates.

• Excellent Communication Skills - verbal, written and interpersonal skills in order to be able to obtain information from users/team members; to convey information (written and oral); to prepare problem /impact analysis reports and documentation.
• Strong reasoning and analytical ability in order to develop, maintain and apply test plans/scripts to assure product quality from a functional and qualitative perspective.
