The Cornwall Regional Hospital, under the Western Regional Health Authority (a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness) is currently seeking to employ a Senior Medical Technologist.

 

SENIOR MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST (HPC/MDT 2)

 

Salary Scale $ 3,759,184.00 - $4,468,488.00 per annum

 

Reporting to the Chief Medical Technologist the incumbent’s core responsibilities will include:

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performing routine and special procedures under the supervision of the Chief Medical Technologist
  • Preparing quality control material and calibrators
  • Assisting the Head of Department with the development and monitoring of quality control programmes
  • Performing analysis on specimen for Hematology, Chemistry, Serology and Blood Banking
  • Assuming responsibility for the overall function of the department in the absence of the Head of Department
  • Assisting the Head of Department with reviewing, checking, and signing of reports
  • Providing technical guidance to Junior Medical Technologist and other Laboratory personnel

 

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Advanced Knowledge of the fundamentals of Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Hematology, and Blood Banking
  • Demonstrate professionalism with patients/clients, lab personnel, and other Health Care Professionals

 

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology from an accredited institution
  • At least four (4) years working experience in a Clinical Laboratory
  • Laboratory general, specialty, or sub-specialty training
  • Current registration with the Council for Professional Supplementary to Medicine
  • Certificate in Supervisory Management would be an asset
