S.M. Jaleel & Company Limited, a leading manufacturer and distribution company of non-alcoholic beverages, is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced individual to fill the position of HSE Officer.

POSITION PROFILE:

The SENIOR HSE Officer is expected to implement the organization’s occupational and environmental health and safety programme engaging, to maintain a safe workplace and to protect the wider environment, as legally required.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS

  • Implementation of organizational Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies and Procedures, to reduce the occurrences of accidents and incidents.
  • Conduct HSE training and awareness sessions for all persons on site, to promote a safe working environment through safe behavior, thereby reducing the number of work related injuries.
  • Conduct Risk assessments in accordance with department standards and completes reports using the SMJ Risk Assessment Form, to help reduce the likelihood of incidents in the workplace by identifying hazards and requisite controls, thereby minimizing legal liability.
  • Facilitate HSE inspections in accordance with local laws and international best practice, to reduce the risk of workplace injury and ill-health, and thereby the likelihood of regulatory action.
  • Investigate Accidents/incidents in accordance with department standards and completes reports using the Accident/Incident Report Form, to learn the cause or causes of the accident so that similar accidents can be prevented, thereby assuring a safe workplace for workers, compliance with legal requirements and a reduction in the financial burden associated with accidents.
  • Inspect Safety equipment (fire extinguishers, fire hoses etc.) with the predetermined frequency, to assess functionality and fitness for purpose, thereby minimizing potential damage or loss associated with emergencies.
  • Provide Support and guidance to the departmental managers, to improve on health, safety and environmental performance standards in their areas so that the organization meets or exceeds regulatoryrequirements and ultimately, its business goals.
  • Advise Head of departments of the proper PPE for staff, to decrease severity of injury if an accident occurs.
  • Comply with all HSE policies and procedures inclusive of but not limited to maintaining a sanitary workspace, use of PPE, adherence to good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safe operation of machinery, in order to reduce the occurrence of accidents and incidents.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the line manager/supervisor.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Health and Environment or Nebosh Level 6 Diploma.
  • Sound knowledge/training in the OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1926 Regulation Standards.
  • Updated knowledge and familiarity with the latest developments in OSH. 
  • Experience liasing with local Legislative Authorites on Workplace standards.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years relevant work experience in an industrial environment.
