JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Internal Auditor supports the Head of Internal Audit in achieving the strategic goals, objectives, and overall mandate of the Internal Audit function through the delivery of risk-based assurance and advisory services.
The role also provides guidance, supervision, and oversight to the Internal Auditor, particularly in relation to the monitoring, follow-up, and reporting of audit findings and management’s implementation of agreed audit recommendations, ensuring timely resolution and continuous improvement in internal controls, governance, and operational effectiveness
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Management, Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related discipline from a recognized accredited institution.
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) from a recognized accredited institution.
- ACCA qualification would be an asset
- Additional audit certification CFE, ISACA, CRMA, CPA or equivalent would be an asset.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience as a senior auditor in an internal audit environment.
- Demonstrated experience conducting operational, financial, or compliance audits.
- Experience within the energy, manufacturing, financial, or public sector environment would be an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of and skill in applying internal auditing and accounting principles and practices, management principles and preferred business practices.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Code of Ethics developed by The Institute of Internal Auditors.
- More than two years supervisory experience will be an asset
- Experience using audit software and data analytics tools would be an asset.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the planning, scoping, and execution of operational, financial, compliance, and special audit engagements in accordance with approved audit standards and methodologies.
- Prepare audit work programs, working papers, process maps, testing schedules, and supporting documentation required for audit assignments.
- Conduct audit testing and evaluations to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, risk management practices, and governance processes.
- Document audit findings, observations, and recommendations accurately and in a timely manner using the approved audit software and reporting standards.
- Perform analytical reviews and data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, control weaknesses, and areas requiring further investigation.
- Monitor and track management’s implementation of agreed audit recommendations and conduct follow-up reviews where required.
- Assist in preparing draft audit reports and other reports for management review.
- Maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders while preserving independence and objectivity.
- Ensure audit assignments are completed within agreed timelines and in accordance with established quality standards.
- Support the development and execution of the annual risk-based audit plan.
- Assist with the preparation of Board and Sub-Committee Audit Reports.
- Maintain confidentiality of audit information, records, and documentation.
- Perform all duties in conformance with applicable health, safety, security, environmental, and corporate policies and procedures.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Head Internal Auditor.
