Job Description

Title: Financial Accountant – Royalties, Revenue & Joint Ventures (JV)
Reports To: Controller Financial Reporting
Location: Trinidad

 

Position Summary

The Financial Accountant – Royalties, Revenue & JVs is responsible for managing, analyzing, and reporting on all royalty, production, revenue, and joint venture accounting. This role ensures compliance with contractual, statutory, and regulatory requirements while providing accurate, timely financial data to support management decision-making.

 

Key Responsibilities

 Revenue Accounting & Reporting

  • Record and reconcile revenue from production, sales, and related activities for all entities.
  • Monitor and validate revenue streams in accordance with contracts, sales agreements, and pricing mechanisms.
  • Prepare monthly revenue recognition schedules and ensure compliance with IFRS and internal policies.

 

Royalty & Government Compliance

  • Calculate, record, and reconcile royalty obligations, production sharing entitlements, and other government take requirements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of royalty and revenue-related reports to regulators and government agencies.
  • Liaise with government stakeholders, auditors, and internal teams on royalty matters.

 

Joint Venture (JV) Accounting

  • Manage Joint Interest Billing (JIB) processes, allocating costs to partners accurately and timely.
  • Maintain records of JV ownership percentages, partner contributions, and cost allocations.
  • Reconcile JV accounts and resolve discrepancies between operator and partners.
  • Prepare JV financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with JV partners on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.

 

Financial Controls & Analysis

  • Maintain accurate records of production volumes, liftings, and sales reconciliations.
  • Perform variance analysis on revenue, royalty, and JV accounts and provide management insights.
  • Support audits (internal, external, and government) related to royalties, revenue, and JIBs.
  • Implement and monitor strong internal controls to ensure accuracy and prevent misstatement.

 

Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with the Controller, Financial Reporting, Financial Accountant, Operations, and JV teams to ensure integrity of revenue and JV reporting.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting of revenue, royalty obligations, and JV costs.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives in revenue, royalty, and JV reporting systems.
  • Other duties as necessary.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
  • Professional designation (ACCA, CPA, CA, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in accounting, preferably in oil & gas, energy, or extractive industries.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory reporting, and JV accounting.
  • Experience in royalty, production sharing, or Joint Interest Billing an asset.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
