The Accountant is responsible for managing the organisation's accounting functions.
The responsibilities of the Accountant will include, but are not limited to:
Review and approve financial transactions within assigned limits
Process and reconcile invoices and payments
Manage the accounts payable and receivable functions
Reconcile bank statements and resolve any discrepancies
Ensure timely and accurate posting of financial transactions
Work closely with the Bursary to ensure timely preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and cost-saving opportunities and recommend adjustments as needed
Identify and recommend improvements to accounting systems and financial processes
Provide actionable insights to support operational and strategic decision-making
Prepare and present financial reports and information to Management
Compile documentation and schedules required for internal and external audits
Support the audit process and liaise with auditors to ensure appropriate financial oversight is maintained
Ensure compliance with applicable financial regulations and internal policies
Analyze actual revenue performance against budgets and business plans
Conduct cost-reduction evaluations and lead the development and implementation of cost containment strategies
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
ACCA Level 2 or higher, CPA or equivalent certification
At least 5 years of relevant accounting experience
Proficiency with accounting and inventory computer applications. Exposure to Ellucian Banner is considered a plus
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
In-depth knowledge and experience in accounting and auditing functions
A solid understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles
Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
Highly developed analytical, decision-making, leadership, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Ability to think ‘outside the box’ and apply creative and constructive thinking to strategic direction and internal processes and procedures
Strong communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)
Able to manage, guide and lead employees to ensure appropriate financial processes are being used
Effective time management skills with flexibility to operate in a demanding environment
