 VACANCY NOTICE

 POST OF REGISTERED NURSE MIDWIFE 

 

The Health Authority of Anguilla invites qualified and professional applicants for the position of Registered Nurse/Midwife.

To provide overall Nursing Care fior General, Surgical, Neonatal, paediatrics and Maternity clients. To provide support to eht District Health Manager in the Nurse lead Clinics. To monitor and provide care and support for pregnant women aduring all stages of pregnancy 

 KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to):

 Clinical Duties

 

  1. Observe, interview and examine patient/client on admission, formulate nursing diagnoses, plan, implement, evaluate and document nursing care.
  2. Direct and monitor nursing personnel and auxiliary staff in the delivery of patient care on each shift.
  3.  Ensure the delivery and maintenance of individual patient care in accordance with quality assurance and nursing standards, protocols and procedures. 
  4. Ensure and administer patient’s treatment, ensure that prescribed medication diagnostic investigations, therapeutic measures, specific nursing care and/or other instructions as ordered by physicians are carried out and documented.
  5.  Educate patients/clients and give demonstrations as necessary.
  6.  Examine pregnant mothers, diagnose, advise, counsel and refer when necessary to Obstretrician/Gynaecologist.
  7.  Manage and provide midwifery services/care to pregnant mothers during labour,       delivery and post-partum period.
  8.  Manage and provide immediate and subsequent care to the neonate.
  9.  Participate in departmental activities to promote maternal health.
  10.  Requisition diets and ensure that the specific/prescribed meals are administered to the correct patients/clients and that patients are fed. 
  11.  Identify patient care problems and participate in problem solving approaches.
  12.  Participate in and include the family in patient teaching and discharge planning and provide documented measures for follow-up care.
  13. Counsel, advise and support staff, patients/clients as necessary.
  14.  Ensure that patients’ rights are respected and that complaints are addressed   appropriately.
  15.  Arrange for the security of the patients/clients valuables in accordance withHealth Authority of Anguilla’s policy. 
  16. Ensure a safe environment for patients/clients and staff by observing infectioncontrol precautions, removing hazards, reporting faulty equipment and adhering to and enforcing rules regarding health and safety.
  17.  Provide nursing support services for other Units as directed.

 

Reports and Record Keeping

 

  1. Maintain accurate recording and reporting systems and documentation of patient/client care.
  2. Investigate and report on incidents/accidents and other untoward occurrences to        the Ward Manager.
  3. Participate in relevant nursing research projects such as nursing workload  Management, keeping statistics and providing information and innovative patient care delivery. 
  4. Prepare operational and statistical reports on general nursing and maternity services

 Management

 

  1. Supervise and provide professional guidance to nursing staff and other relevant personnel.
  2. Participate in the development of short-term plans and programme activities to achieve the objectives set for the ward and Maternity Unit.
  3. Supervise staff and ensure that they adhere to policies and procedures in accordance with approved standards. 
  4. Monitor the use of supplies and medications and ensure adequate quantities and 
  5. quality are available and safely stored. 
  6. Participate in the orientation and education of new staff as directed.
  7. Assist in maintaining an adequate stock of medication, equipment and supplies and ensure that they are stored safely and used appropriately.
  8. Ensure that supplies are prepared and available for sterilization at all times, stored safely and used appropriately.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge and Ability

 The incumbent must possess well-developed theoretical and practical knowledge and skills with knowledge of current trends in nursing, basic administrative principles and techniques.  Sound judgment, high standards of integrity and professionalism, excellent written and oral communicative skills, the ability to act efficiently and effectively, must demonstrate effective leadership and managerial skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships and the confidentiality of office. Excellent customer service skills and must be customer focused.

 

Working Condition Requirements

 Required to have a drivers license and a vehicle for conducting home visits for the maternity clients

Qualifications:

 Bachelor’s degree or an Associate’s Degree in General Nursing, Certificate in Midwifery

Experience:

 Three (3) years post qualification experience

 Licensure/Certifications:

 Current Nursing License

Basic Life Support (BLS),

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS),

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Certificate in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
