Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the following position at the North-Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA):

    REGISTERED NURSE

The incumbent will be responsible for providing professional nursing care to Patients within assigned units in support of quality medical care as directed by the Medical Staff.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning, supervising and instructing all assigned Nursing Assistants, Patient Care Assistants and Attendants.
  • Perform nursing techniques for the comfort and well-being of patients.
  • Prepare equipment and assist the Physician during treatments and examinations of patients.
  • Administer prescribed medication- orally and via injection; observe patients for reactions to medications and reports adverse reactions to Nurse In Charge.
  • Provide treatment using therapeutic equipment.
  • Change or assist the Physician in changing, dressing and cleaning wounds/incisions.
  • Take temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure and heart beat to detect deviations and gauge the progress of patients.
  • Comply with the Physician’s instructions on patient care and approved nursing care plan(s).
  • Initiate, implement and evaluate nursing care plans in order to provide efficient and effective patient care.
  • Observe record and report to the Nurse-In-Charge or Physician: the patients’ conditions and reactions to drugs, treatment and critical/significant incidents.
  • Maintain patients’ medical records on nursing observations and action taken - such as medications and reactions to treatments administered, investigations, intake and output, temperature, pulse and respiration rate, blood pressures.
  • Maintain the safety of patients and clients by following the policies, procedures and protocols for the administration of medicine.
  • Record all nursing needs of the patients and provide instructions with respect to post discharge care.
  • Observe the emotional state of patients and provide instructions with respect to post discharge care.
  • Assist in operations and deliveries by preparing the room, sterilised instruments, equipment and hands them to surgeons during procedures. (Theatre RN)
  • Assist non-professional nursing care personnel in rendering nursing care in the Unit.
  • Control drugs utilised by maintaining the check and balance systems of the Nursing Unit and the organization- effective monitoring of the critical limits.
  • Ensure that all work areas are well maintained in all aspects required by nursing standards.
  •  Maintain good working relationships within the assigned span of control to provide optimal quality patient care.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by the organisational relationship.

Minimum Qualifications, Training and Experience:

  • Nursing degree from a recognised institution.
  • Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Sound knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures.

 

*Certificates acquired at foreign universities MUST be supported by certified transcripts as well as evidence that the completed programme is accredited in Trinidad and Tobago.
