The Department of Health Services invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for the position of Registered Nurse.

Mandate: 

To assess patients/clients, formulate nursing diagnosis, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care, manage and provide nursing services in accordance with quality assurance and nursing standards and specifications.

Key Functions

  • Observe, interview, examine and assess patient/client on admission, formulate nursing, nursing diagnosis, plan, implement, evaluate and document nursing care.
  • Participate in the delivery and maintenance of individual patient/client care in accordance with quality assurance and nursing standards, protocols and procedures.    

Key Duties (A Few)

  • Observe, interview and examine patient/client on admission, formulate nursing diagnoses, plan, implement, evaluate and document nursing care.
  • Participate in the delivery and maintenance of individual patient/client care in accordance with quality assurance and nursing standards, protocols and   procedures.   
  • Administer patient’s treatment, ensure that prescribed medication, diagnostic investigations, therapeutic measures, specific nursing care and/or other instructions as ordered by Physicians are carried out and documented
  • Provide a safe environment for patients and staff by observing infection control precautions, removing hazards, reporting faulty equipment and adhering to and enforcing rules regarding health and safety.
  • Participate in maintaining an accurate recording and reporting system and in informing members of the Health Team about the care of patients, their progress and work related matters.
  • Attend training in the use of the Electronic Health Record System and utilize the system as instructed.
  • Promote patient independence and assist where required with activities of daily living relative to patient/client care.
  • Assist in the distribution of prescribed diets and monitor feeding.
  • Participate in the development of short-term plans, programme and activities to achieve the objectives set for the ward.
  • Investigate and report on incidents/accidents and other untoward occurrences to the Nurse in Charge.
  • Provide support in the development and implementation of in-service programs including on the job training sessions for staff and conduct patient-care conferences to acquaint staff of new techniques and treatments.
  • Supervise staff and ensure that they adhere to policies and procedures of the department.
  • Ensure that patients’ rights are respected and that complaints are addressed appropriately.

 Professional Qualifications 

The incumbent must possess well-developed theoretical and practical knowledge and skill in General Nursing, knowledge of current trends in nursing, sound judgment, high standards of integrity and professionalism, excellent written and oral communicative skills, be a team worker, the ability to act efficiently and effectively and can work under pressure, the ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships and the confidentiality of office.

 

Such knowledge, skills and abilities are obtained in the process of acquisition of a BSc Degree in General Nursing, BLS certified, ACLS certified and at least two (2) years post qualification experience.
