Job Summary
The Registered Nurse performs general or psychiatric nursing activities for the physically or mentally ill. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the implementation of accredited nursing and hospital standards to ensure quality outputs and patient satisfaction. The Registered Nurse is also required to supervise Enrolled Nursing Assistants, student nurses and Patient Care Assistants.
The core functions include but not limited to the following:
- Takes/gives over the patients and their patient-care needs on all shifts.
- Utilizes Patient Classification and nursing process in accordance with accredited nursing and hospital standards, policies and procedures in the delivery of nursing/patient care.
- Observes, documents and reports changes in patient care activities.
- Performs his/her duties in accordance with professional standards.
- Evaluates the outcome of patient care plans for compliance or the lack thereof.
- Assists with the supervision and teaching of Nursing Students and Patient Care Assistants.
- Hands/takes over the D.D.A drugs and equipment on all shifts.
- Prepares stipulated Ward Reports on patient care activities on all shifts.
- Supervises patients engaged in occupational and recreational therapies.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications, Training and Experience:
- Possession of a Certificate/Diploma/Degree in General or Psychiatric Nursing.
- Registration with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago in General Nursing or in Psychiatric Nursing.
ENROLLED NURSING ASSISTANT
Job Summary
The Enrolled Nursing Assistant serves as an assistant to a Trained Nurse. Work involves a variety of nursing duties and is reviewed through discussions, inspections and reports.
The core functions include but not limited to the following:
- Serves as an assistant to a trained nurse.
- Bathes, shaves, combs hair, cuts nails, performs oral hygiene and attends to other related personal needs of patients.
- Takes and records temperature, pulse and respiration, blood pressure, weight and height of patients, tests urine.
- Cleans and dresses wounds as assigned.
- Serves and removes bed pans/urinal to/from patient.
- Cleans and stacks bedpans/urinals, basins in accordance with standards.
- Assists patients with feeding.
- Observes documents and reports any changes of patients’ conditions to Head Nurse/Nurse in Charge.
- Ensures privacy of patients.
- Accompanies patients to clinics, other treatment units and to designated discharge areas.
- Performs ward errands.
- Assists with the maintenance of the Treatment Room.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications, Training and Experience:
- Certification as an Enrolled Nursing Assistant.
- Current enrollment with the Nursing Council of Trinidad & Tobago.
