 Summary:

Risk management is a critical function within organizations, focusing on compliance and strategic planning. Professionals in this field assess and mitigate factors that could pose risks or liabilities to a company, spanning financial, operational, and regulatory domains. Effective risk management ensures preparedness, security, and informed decision-making, safeguarding the company's assets and reputation. Key contributions include thorough analysis, proactive planning, industry expertise, and consumer insight.

 The Risk, Loss Control & Compliance Auditor plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the company's financial integrity by overseeing risk management and compliance initiatives. Reporting to the Financial Controller, the incumbent will be responsible for evaluating and mitigating financial risks, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, and enhancing operational efficiencies. This multifaceted role encompasses tasks related to inventory control, risk assessment, security oversight, and investigative procedures.

  Tasks & Duties:

Risk Management and Compliance:

  1. Conduct risk assessments to identify potential areas of financial loss and operational inefficiencies.
  2. Collaborate with Inventory Control Manager to ensure accurate inventory reporting and investigate discrepancies.
  3. Monitor and evaluate workplace safety practices, particularly in warehouse environments.
  4. Spot-check operational processes to verify compliance with established protocols and documented operating practices (SOPs).
  5. Verify adherence to established processes and procedures through spot checks on various operational activities such as deliveries, order processing, and inventory management.
  6. Liaise with Quality Control and Procurement Teams to address defective product issues and facilitate claims processing.
  7. Manage security roles within the ERP system (INFOR M3), ensuring proper access controls and workflow approvals.
  8. Conduct process and system testing to identify and resolve issues affecting data integrity and operational efficiency.
  9. Monitor expiration dates of perishable products and facilitate their removal or transfer as necessary.
  10. Collaborate with Operations Management to deliver training on asset inventory management and develop protocols for adherence.
  11. Collaborate with Operations Management to implement behaviour change initiatives and track progress towards operational improvements.

 Risk Control:

  1. Identify potential areas of risk, including pilferage, operational inefficiencies, and process gaps, and recommend strategies for mitigation.
  2. Evaluate sales and inventory records to assess risk levels and anticipate potential losses.
  3. Analyse and aggregate data from multiple sources to provide holistic risk assessments.
  4. Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate risk assessment findings and mitigation strategies.
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyse data effectively and support decision-making processes.
  6. Develop systems for data collection and storage to facilitate future analytic endeavours.
  7. Monitor internal and external factors that may impact decision-making and risk levels and adjust strategies accordingly.  

Security Oversight:

  1. Provide indirect supervision to the Security Supervisor, ensuring the maintenance of a safe and secure environment for staff and customers.
  2. Assist in the development and implementation of corporate security standards, policies, and practices to enhance effectiveness.
  3. Conduct awareness training, risk assessments, and monitor local and regional security issues affecting business operations.
  4. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide guidance on security-related matters.
  5. Stay informed about security incidents and emergency situations, implementing mitigation strategies as necessary.
  6. Participate in the management of outsourced security contracts and review relevant security reports and operations logs.
  7. Ensure compliance with safety and emergency procedures, particularly concerning fire alarms and site emergencies and/or during crisis situations. 

Investigative Procedures:

  1. Conduct thorough investigations into employee grievances, complaints, and alleged violations of the company's Code of Conduct.
  2. Gather and analyse documentation, interview relevant parties, and collect evidence to ascertain facts and identify areas of concern.
  3. Prepare detailed investigative reports summarizing findings and recommendations for management.
  4. Assist in the preparation and attendance of hearings, providing documentation, representation, and court proceedings as necessary.
  5. Liaise with external parties such as law enforcement and legal representatives throughout the investigation process. 

 Additional Responsibilities:

  • Execute any other tasks and duties as assigned by management. 

Skills Required:

  • Proficiency in financial, analytical, accounting, and statistical tools.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and warehouse operations.
  • Strong decision-making and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyse complex data and communicate findings effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent record-keeping and report-writing abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and negotiation abilities. 

 Job Specifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, statistics, economics, accounting, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in security operations management.
  • Experience in fast-paced corporate environments, preferably within distribution settings.
  • Familiarity with standard software applications and security technologies.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays if required.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Knowledge of HACCP is an asset.
