REGISTERED NURSE (RN)

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Assessment:

  • Conduct thorough and ongoing assessments of patients' physical and emotional health, including vital signs, medical history, and current symptoms.
  • Use critical thinking skills to identify patient needs, prioritize care interventions, and develop individualized care plans.

Care Planning and Implementation:

  • Develop comprehensive care plans based on patient assessments, evidence-based practice guidelines, and interdisciplinary team input.
  • Implement nursing interventions, treatments, and procedures in accordance with established protocols and standards of care.

Medication Administration:

  • Administer medications and intravenous therapies safely and accurately, following medication administration policies and procedures.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions to medications and intervene promptly as needed.

Patient Education:

  • Provide patient and family education on health conditions, treatment plans, medications, and self-care techniques.
  • Empower patients to participate in their care by promoting health literacy and shared decision-making.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including nursing assessments, care plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members through verbal reports, written documentation, and electronic health records.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers to address concerns, answer questions, and provide emotional support.

Safety and Quality Assurance:

  • Adhere to infection control protocols and patient safety standards to minimize the risk of healthcare-associated infections and other adverse events.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and performance improvement activities to enhance the delivery of nursing care.
  • Participate in educational activities, conferences, and continuing medical education (CME) opportunities to enhance clinical knowledge, skills, and competency in nursing practice.

Emergency Response:

  • Assist with emergency resuscitation efforts, including CPR and other life-saving interventions, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Registered with the St. Lucia Nursing Council and licensed to practice in St. Lucia.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited and recognized tertiary institution.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and expertise in nursing practice, with a commitment to evidence-based care.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and quality improvement principles.

  • Clinical Knowledge: A strong foundation in nursing practice and clinical expertise is essential for understanding patient care needs, assessing nursing performance, and implementing evidence-based practices.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills are essential for effectively conveying information, articulating expectations, and building relationships with nursing staff, healthcare providers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team. This includes both verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adaptability: The healthcare landscape is constantly evolving, and RNs must be able to adapt to changing circumstances, priorities, and challenges while remaining resilient and maintaining a focus on quality patient care.
  • Ethical Conduct: Upholding ethical standards and promoting integrity and professionalism in nursing practice is essential for maintaining trust and credibility with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues. Respect for patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: RNs must be adept at identifying problems, analyzing root causes, and developing effective solutions to address challenges in nursing practice, patient care delivery, staffing, and resource management.
  • Adaptability and Resilience: Flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing patient conditions, fluctuating workload, and unexpected emergencies with composure and professionalism. Resilience to cope with high-stress situations and emotionally challenging encounters.

Working Conditions:

  • Work Location: Operates in operates in a clinical environment within the hospital with regular interaction with nursing staff and patients.
  • Schedule: Full-time position
  • Hours: Rotating shifts, including mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and emergencies based on the needs of the unit or department.
  • Environment: Fast-paced clinical environment with exposure to patients with acute and chronic medical conditions. May involve exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials.
  • Equipment: Use of medical equipment and technology for patient evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to navigate hospital units and clinical areas, including patient care areas and administrative offices.

Salary will be paid in accordance with the experience and requirements for the post. with the terms stipulated by The Board of St. Jude Hospital.
