Contract: 6 months (renewable)

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

Responsible for working closely with Executive and Senior Management in establishing policies and procedures that will create and maintain a safe workplace and enforce a culture of health and safety consciousness. Develop and execute HSE plans in the workplace that conform to all legal and statutory guidelines with regard to occupational health and safety. Ensures Company compliance with STOW, MLC/ISO Certifications. Responsible for communicating HSSE policies and procedures to a multidisciplinary workforce and for evaluating practices, procedures and facilities to assess and mitigate risks in adherence to the law.

DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports Executive Management in the development and implementation of the Company’s HSSE Management System, HSSE Policies and Guidelines, and in the definition of Organizational HSSE roles and responsibilities.
  • Supports Executive Management in the updating, review and auditing of the Company’s HSSE Management System.
  • Monitors the effective implementation of appropriate HSSE procedures and provides for their updating in line with changes in Legislation and Company directives.
  • Supports Executive Management in familiarising and motivating all employees with respect to the importance of complying with the Company’s HSSE procedures, and the proper use of all Safety equipment provided.
  • Monitors the Company’s adherence to safety policies and/or guidelines, in order to establish a culture of health and safety consciousness.
  • Undertakes lead role for STOW and MLC/ISO Certifications.
  • Assists various Departments in their interactions with Company’s clients in all issues concerned with Health and Safety at work.
  • Conducts safety audits, both internal and external (sub-contractors) and reports findings.
  • Performs Risk Assessments and reports on findings and provides suggestions for risk mitigation.
  • Participates in accident/incident investigation and submits report based on findings.
  • Conducts analysis of accident/incident statistics, identifying trends and suggesting improvement plans.
  • Ensures that work-related injuries and/or accidents are well-documented and properly kept.
  • Keeps record of all safety-related issues within the organization and makes sure that corrective measures are taken.
  • Conducts safety inspections on a routine basis, in collaboration with the relevant supervisors, and intervenes in correcting unsafe work practices in the organization.
  • Provides technical support to Senior Management on HSSE related matters.
  • Organise and conduct training and presentations on health, safety and environmental matters and accident prevention.
  • Liaises with Clients on safety related matters, if and when required.
  • Participates in HAZOP meetings prior to procurement and installation activities, as required.
  • Provides support in preparation of HSSE documentation for tenders.
  • Provides HSSE support and advice, including supervision when necessary, on preparation of plans and procedures for initial contract start up activities.
  • Recommends solutions to HSE issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures, as required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Professional qualifications or certifications in HSE and Fire & Safety Management Systems.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of relevant work experience in a similar role.

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and work well with others.
  • Good leadership qualities.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively.
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications.
  • High level of problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and observation skills.
  • Experience in policy drafting/formulation and administration of safety policies.
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.
  • Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Management Systems, Environmental Discharges, Incident Investigation, and HSE Auditing Techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of legal safety guidelines (e.g. Occupational Safety and Health guidelines).
