J. Astaphan & Company Limited is seeking to recruit a responsible, team-oriented, personable and highly confidential individual for selecting/purchasing key merchandize for sale to customers. The purchasing officer will source new and review existing product lines to maintain and improve market dominance and competitiveness of the company and obtain goals and sales targets.

 JOB SUMMARY:

  • Evaluate various vendor options based on pricing and quality among other things to determine the best choices for the company.
  • Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and keep up good communications
  • Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationship
  • Discovering and purchasing new products and checking the quality and popularity of those already on our shelves
  • In conjunction with the GM – Operations and Exec./Managing Director where applicable, negotiate contracts, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilising negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods
  • Prepare and raise purchase orders and order schedules.
  • Support the purchasing function and other relevant departments and communicate any supply problems which may impact on business operations.
  • Develop training policies for staff across the organization.to increase their product knowledge of brands/merchandize carried by the company.
  • Identify and monitor consumer/market trends, competitor strategies to assist in forecasting trends
  • Provide analysis of costs, new and existing, with the view to reducing and improving efficiencies within the purchasing function.
  • Prepare reports on sales, budgets and customer satisfaction and adjust your strategies accordingly.
  • Work closely with others in the procurement function and review opportunities for continuous improvement and business improvements
  • Monitor Stock levels to manage supply chain thus avoiding over/understock stock or near expiry situations.
  • Attend events, trade shows and exhibitions to remain up to date with the market’s trends
  • Mentor direct reports and provide coaching to help them reach their potential.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA degree in Business Administration or Marketing
  • Five (5) CXC/CSEC subjects, including Mathematics, English
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Strong cognitive and creative skills
  • Excellent customer service skills required. 
  • Must be reliable and responsible; proactive and creative and work with little direction to achieve goals.
  • Must work well under pressure.
  • Proficient in software applications including MS Office Suite, in particular Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of the LS system would be an advantage.
  • Excellent record-keeping (computerized) and organizational skills
  • Willingness/ability to travel,
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends.
