JOB TITLE:                            Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor)

 

MINISTRY:                           Health and Human Services

 

DEPARTMENT:                     Primary Health Care Department  

 

LOCATION:                       Providenciales

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The incumbent in this position will be required to deliver effective comprehensive primary health care services focused on disease prevention, health promotion and maintenance in the clinic, homes and communities through the utilization of the nursing process.     

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifies health needs in the community and create and facilitate programs.
  • Conducts and supervises the health care delivery services in the clinics, communities and schools, including the delivery of educational programs.
  • Conducts child health clinic sessions, including the administration of immunization (EPI vaccines).
  • Conducts and or supervises antenatal clinic sessions.
  • Conducts home visits to determine clients’ needs including physical assessments, obtaining blood pressure and temperature measurements and other data and developing information on health history, diet history, and family health status.
  • Administers treatment for tuberculosis (TB) and sexually transmitted disease (STD) clients and educate clients on potential side effects, and monitor for adverse reaction.
  • Participates in in-service education.
  • Conducts staff performance appraisal exercises for junior staff.
  • Ensures effective operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements notifying the relevant personnel for repairs; maintain equipment inventories; evaluate new equipment and techniques.
  • Accurately document patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
  • Coordinates efforts with physicians
  • Participates in in-service education
  • Maintains nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications and becoming a member of the Health Professions Board.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Adheres to all Public Service codes, rules and regulations
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Nursing, with a certificate or diploma in Registered Nursing.
  • Post graduate education and training in Midwifery and Public Health/Community Health Nursing.
  • A minimum of (2) years’ experience in Public Health Nursing.         

SALARY: Grade 7 - $41,205.00 per annum plus allowances
