The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the safe transport of pressurised, flammable energy products from supplier collection points to the company’s processing plant, managing production operations, cylinder lifecycle activities, and plant optimisation initiatives.
This role ensures effective scheduling of drivers and transport assets, efficient production workflows, strong frontline supervision, rigorous operational analysis, and continuous process improvements to maximise efficiency, safety, regulatory compliance, and operational reliability.
Oversee the safe and efficient transport of regulated, pressurised gaseous fuels from supplier collection points to the company’s plant.
Schedule drivers and manage trailer allocations to ensure timely and compliant delivery of bulk energy products.
Monitor fleet performance, fuel usage, asset condition, and preventative maintenance schedules.
Proactively identify and address transport bottlenecks, delays, or operational risks associated with hazardous material movement.
Support execution of operational strategy by aligning departmental plans with overall company objectives.
Ensure Team Leaders within Production and Cylinder Maintenance effectively supervise teams and meet operational targets.
Oversee cylinder filling, testing, washing, painting, de-canting, and recertification processes in accordance with all applicable safety and quality standards.
Ensure compliance with recognised fire, pressure vessel, and occupational safety regulations governing flammable gas systems.
Monitor production workflows, identify constraints, and implement corrective actions to eliminate backlogs and inefficiencies.
Analyse production processes, operating parameters, and plant workflows to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
Conduct variance analyses (actual vs. budget) on key operational metrics and implement corrective actions.
Perform root cause analyses (RCA) on process deviations, quality incidents, or operational disruptions.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
Conduct time-and-motion studies to reduce waste, streamline operations, and improve throughput.
Map, redesign, and standardise processes to optimise workflows and plant performance.
Monitor equipment performance and recommend upgrades, modifications, or automation solutions where feasible.
Evaluate, recommend, and implement automation and digital monitoring solutions for production and cylinder operations.
Introduce modern process control strategies to improve efficiency, safety, and product quality.
Provide data-driven insights and strategic recommendations to senior management.
Lead initiatives to reduce downtime, operating costs, and operational risk exposure.
Use data analytics to support operational decision-making and plant optimisation.
Ensure operational and departmental data accuracy and reliability.
Prepare monthly operational reports for submission to the Head of Operations by the sixth working day.
Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for production efficiency, safety, and cost control.
Collaborate with Finance on stock verification, inventory controls, and variance investigations.
Ensure all training plans are executed, documented, and completed within agreed timelines.
Identify underperformance and implement structured performance improvement plans (PIPs).
Document and manage misconduct or policy breaches in line with HR procedures.
Collaborate with HR on investigations and disciplinary processes as required.
Mentor and coach direct reports to drive accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Develop and execute individual Development Plans based on performance assessments.
Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
Foster collaboration across departments and operational teams.
Place the safety of people, plant, and equipment as the highest operational priority.
Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulatory and industry standards governing pressurised flammable gases, including fire safety, pressure vessel, and occupational health regulations.
Strengthen compliance through innovative risk-reduction strategies and continuous training.
Partner with HSE teams to identify operational hazards and implement effective mitigation measures.
Enforce all Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental policies, including PPE usage, housekeeping standards, emergency response readiness, and participation in safety meetings.
Ensure effective use of HRIS systems for accurate attendance, payroll, and workforce records.
Ensure prudent management of labour costs and other operating expenses.
Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety, quality, or compliance.
Perform any other duties as assigned by Senior Management.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or Process Engineering (or related discipline).
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in production, manufacturing, or process-driven industries involving hazardous or pressurised energy systems.
Minimum of two (2) years’ supervisory or people-management experience.
Strong knowledge of pressurised gas distribution, cylinderised energy systems, and regulated fuel operations.
Production planning and scheduling.
Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance within high-risk operational environments.
Budgeting, cost control, and variance analysis.
