The Production Manager (PM) is responsible for the technical management, supervision and control of all production operations at CGA Limited.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manages all production operations and activities, to ensure the highest level of productivity & efficiency to ensure production KPIs and targets are achieved.
  • Oversees the Production Planning process to ensure 6-month Production Plan as well as Weekly Production Plans are prepared, shared and executed as per schedule, within budget and in alignment with Sales VPGs whilst ensuring economic and efficient runs.
  • Oversees the efficient execution of the production plan by providing support with assigning manpower, accomplishing work results, establishing priorities, monitoring progress, revising schedules, resolving problems, and reporting results of the process flow on shift production summaries.
  • Ensures VPGs are produced at least one month in advance, zero finished goods stock outs and timely communication of issues and solutions to the required team members.
  • Leads weekly production meetings with key personnel, to present weekly Production Plans, share updates and discuss challenges.
  • Monitors planned downtime to ensure scheduled time (cleaning, changeovers, training and/or line set up efficiency etc.) is adhered to/minimized.
  • Maintains manpower plans for the Production Department as well as efficiency in allocation of labour, resources and asset utilisation.
  • Ensure the production team is aware of day-to-day targets, KPIs and responsibilities.
  • Supports the Production Supervisory Team with the day-to-day production operations, to ensure efficient operations whilst achieving Production KPI targets, in alignment with the Balanced Scorecard.
  • Maintains workflow by monitoring and upgrading processes, setting processing variables, observing control points and equipment, monitoring personnel and resources, implementing cost reductions, developing reporting procedures and systems.
  • Collaborate with Operations, HSE and Quality teams to develop and implement production policies, work instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Monitoring and managing of production floor stock, re-work, waste and items for disposition to minimize rejections and variances. Ensure holistic systems are in place to achieve this.
  • Conducts regular inspections of plants and areas utilized for production activities to ensure adherence to best manufacturing practices, quality, foods safety & HSE standards.
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources, and maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Performing daily inspections of the production plants to ensure plants are maintained in a clean, safe & sanitary condition.
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviours expected of them.
  • Accomplishes manufacturing results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counselling, and disciplining employees; and initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensures succession planning is in place for all Production positions;
  • Ensures shift/daily inventory documents, batch cards, re-work logs, google sheets and close off documents are properly completed and submitted as per stipulated timelines.
  • Managing, evaluating and reporting on Production productivity and key performance indicators. Submits required reports as per set schedule.
  • Provides manufacturing information by compiling, initiating, sorting, and analysing production performance records and data, and answering questions and responding to requests.
  • Recommend and /or implement new methods / equipment, process optimization, and improvements, where required to improve overall plant efficiency.
  • Conforms to and enforces all established departmental and company policies, procedures and objectives, GMPs, food safety and HSE site protocols;
  • Liaise with Quality department re: production quality issues and carry out incident, accident and non-conformity investigations and associated reporting and action closure.
  • Immediately communicates production related downtimes, critical non-conformances and major breakdowns (exceeding 30 mins) to the CPO and key stakeholders. Provide details of root cause of these as well as immediate action required and timelines to address.
  • Develops and monitors the Production department’s budget to achieve financial objectives by managing expenditures, analysing variances and initiating corrective actions. Reviews actuals vs budgeted expenditure monthly.
  • Be on call (as required) to provide support to all planned production shifts. Ensure designated alternates are in place as required.
  • Provide support to the Engineering Department to schedule planned preventative maintenance of all production machinery and equipment.
  • Conforms to all established departmental & company policies, procedures & objectives, fulfils the requirements of CGA Ltd.’s SQF Program including but not limited to GMPs, PPE, HACCP, food safety & HSE site protocols.
  • Undergo any job-related training required by the company;
  • Performs other related tasks and responsibilities as required by the CPO/COO;

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Process, Engineering or related field preferred;
  • MBA or MSc would be an asset;
  • 5-6 years’ experience in a Production environment (preferably with a manufacturing company)
  • 3-4 years’ experience in a managerial position;
  • Strong working knowledge of production operations;
  • Time management skills and ability to delegate;
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data entry software (SAP, Odoo etc.);
