The Production Assistant is responsible for performing carpentry and construction tasks for the Training Based Enterprise under the guidance and supervision of the Training Based Enterprise Manager and supporting the training of trainees in related areas.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

ü  NVQ-J Level 3 certification or the equivalent in disciplines such as: Carpentry, Furniture Making, Construction

ü  At least three (3) years relevant experience in a comparable position and business/work environment

KEY COMPETENCIES:

ü  Good communication and professional disposition

ü  Hands-on experience in working with carpentry and construction materials

ü  Excellent understanding of carpentry and construction techniques and methods of installation

ü  Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.)

KEY DUTIES:

ü  Gathers materials for workers to handle on job sites

ü  Keeps job sites clean and machines serviced

ü  Sets up and calibrates workshop equipment at the beginning of the shift, ensuring that they are working correctly

ü  Acquires supplies for production ensuring that they are the right types and sizes.

ü  Assists in product installations

ü  Handles and transports material for jobs

ü  Reports issues with equipment or unsafe conditions

ü  Coordinates and ensures all projects are completed on time

ü  Takes measurements and calculates the size and amount of material needed for jobs to be done

ü  Cuts, shapes and smooths lumber and other material (e.g. glass) according to measurements

ü  Inspects places and conduct repairs or maintenance
