The Principal oversees school management, academics, and leadership to ensure a positive learning environment for both students and staff.

Role Summary 

The Secondary School Principal is a dynamic and visionary educational leader responsible for the overall management, administration, and academic excellence of a secondary school. This role requires a blend of instructional leadership, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and organizational management to create a positive and conducive learning environment for students and staff alike.
 

Role Responsibilities

  1.  Set a clear vision for academic excellence and student achievement, aligning it with the school's mission and goals.
  2.  Provide instructional leadership by supporting and evaluating teaching staff, promoting innovative teaching methodologies, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  3. Monitor curriculum implementation, student progress, assessment and placement practices to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
  4. Develop and implement strategic plans, policies, and procedures to enhance the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the school.
  5. Allocate resources effectively, including staffing, budgeting, facilities management, and technology integration, to support teaching and learning initiatives.
  6. Lead and manage day-to-day administrative functions, including student discipline, staff supervision, scheduling, and school operations.
  7. Build positive relationships with students, parents, teachers, staff, and the broader community to foster a supportive and inclusive school culture.
  8. Collaborate with parents and community organizations to promote parental involvement, volunteer opportunities, and community partnerships.
  9. Represent the school at various forums, conferences, and events to advocate for the school's interests and initiatives.
  10. Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities to empower teachers and staff members to grow and excel in their roles.
  11. Foster a collaborative and collegial work environment where teamwork, creativity, and innovation are valued and encouraged.
  12. Recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions of staff members, fostering a positive morale and sense of belonging within the school community.
  13. Promote the social, emotional, and academic well-being of students by implementing programs and initiatives that address their diverse needs and interests.
  14. Oversee student support services, including counseling, special education, and extracurricular activities, to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
  15. Create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing school environment where all students feel valued, respected, and supported in their educational journey.
  16. Identify, supervise, evaluate and maintain best practices in the school management and administration (policies and procedures) and make recommendations for improvements.
  17. Supervise the review of the schemes of work prepared by the school’s heads of department and teachers to ensure that instruction and assessment techniques are reliable and that the established curricula are adhered to.  
  18. Recommend necessary resources, procure and ensure the dissemination, as required.
  19. Monitor/inspect the facilities and provide advice on the effective administration of the facilities ensuring that the required standards are maintained.
  20. Serve as liaison person between the school and various stakeholders and agencies including the parents, Ministry of Education. 
  21. Identify job specific and environmental factors, develop/enforce health and safety policies and mitigate and minimize hazards to promote health and safety of officers.
  22. Complete a minimum of 60 Essential Learning Hours annually to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
  23. Perform any other related duties as required by Supervisor or any other senior officer in order to contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.
 

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Education Leadership/Management or another area of Education
  • Certificate in Educational Leadership and Bachelor’s degree in Education
  • Seven (7) years’ experience as a Teacher Grade IV
  • Seven (7) years' experience in senior management position

Knowledge & Skills 

  • Excellent knowledge of Government structure, policies and procedures
  • Excellent knowledge of Education Act, Public Service Management Code and other regulations
  • Excellent knowledge of education management, curriculum development and budget management
  • Sound knowledge of effective structure and functioning of Education systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of the use of standard office equipment and current computer applications and software
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Sound knowledge of CPR
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict management skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and work as a team 
  • Excellent leadership and management skills
Maximum Salary: $68,340.00 USD
