CAREER OPPORTUNITY

 

The Fair Trading Commission is seeking to recruit an individual to fill the following position:

Power Systems Engineer – On Contract

The Power System Engineer plays a pivotal role in our regulatory agency's efforts to ensure the efficient and equitable delivery of utility services in the rapidly evolving technological landscape.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Serving as a key in-house technical advisor to the Commission and being involved in critical problem-solving discussions.
  • Liaising with the Ministry of Energy and Business (MEB) on Integrated Resource and Resilience Planning (IRRP), modelling and input parameter validation.
  • Reviewing IRRP study reports to assess the costs and risks associated with various resource options.
  • Assisting with the review of capital and maintenance proposals from regulated entities to ensure prudency and efficiency.
  • Carrying out investigations and analyses into major system outages on the electric system as necessary.
  • Assessing recommendations and providing feedback to help licensees develop action plans that mitigate future occurrences.

 

The successful candidate should:

 

  • Hold A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years post-graduate experience in the power systems or electricity analysis field.
  • Have strong knowledge of conventional and alternative electricity generation methods, including fossil fuels, renewables, and energy storage.
  • Be proficient in the utilisation of data analysis tools and modelling software.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and facilitation skills.

 

Training or experience in utility regulation would be an asset.
