General Description:

The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the production and maintenance divisions to ensure that manufacturing targets are achieved efficiently, safely, and in compliance with quality and regulatory standards. This role involves planning, coordinating, and directing all plant operational activities, while driving continuous improvement initiatives, optimizing resource utilization, and minimizing downtime.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute a robust operational strategy that aligns with organizational goals and supports long-term growth.
  • Build and lead a high-performance leadership team by fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous development.
  • Champion a culture of safety, quality, and operational discipline across the plant.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to meet and exceed fiscal performance targets.

Production & Quality Management

  • Lead all production functions to ensure consistent output, adherence to quality standards, and achievement of delivery timelines.
  • Ensure cross-functional alignment with Quality to maintain product excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Align production planning with business needs, ensuring cross-functional cohesion and timely execution.

Maintenance & Reliability

  • Oversee maintenance strategies that promote equipment reliability and reduce operational downtime.
  • Lead all maintenance functions to implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Evaluate capital investment needs and spearhead initiatives to modernize equipment and increase plant capabilities.

Financial & Resource Management

  • Own the development and oversight of the plant's operational and capital budgets.
  • Monitor financial KPIs, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement strategies to enhance profitability.
  • Optimize resource utilization and apply lean manufacturing principles to drive efficiency and reduce waste.

Continuous Improvement & Technology

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by implementing performance-enhancing initiatives and methodologies.
  • Use data and KPIs to identify bottlenecks and track progress on productivity, quality, and cost-efficiency goals.
  • Champion technology adoption and best practices to future-proof operations.
  • Identify and implement innovative solutions for waste reduction.

Stakeholder & Partner Engagement

  • Serve as the key operational liaison between the plant and internal functions such as Sales, Procurement, HR, and Warehouse & Inventory.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with suppliers, customers, and external partners to support seamless operations and high service standards.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and corporate standards.
  • Promote proactive safety practices, lead safety audits, and facilitate employee engagement in risk mitigation.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of safety incidents and implement lasting corrective measures.

Reporting & Performance Tracking

  • Establish and maintain robust reporting systems for operational, financial, safety, and quality performance.
  • Provide regular updates and insights to executive leadership on key metrics and progress toward strategic goals.
  • Use reporting as a tool to drive accountability, transparency, and informed decision-making.

Other:

  • Develop, implement, and continuously update policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company objectives.
  • Comply with all Policies.
  • Any other duties as required.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of ten (10) years' experience in a Manufacturing industry.
  • Proven leadership experience, with a track record of managing production and maintenance teams.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment maintenance, and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience in project management and commissioning and de-commissioning machinery.
  • Extensive knowledge of trouble-shooting and maintenance of electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of operating and capital budgets, production planning.
  • Extensive experience in preventative maintenance.
  • Experience in a unionized environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate teams.
  • Proficiency in using manufacturing software and tools (e.g., ERP systems).


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • MSc. in Production Engineering or similar qualification.
  • BSc. in Engineering, Manufacturing. MBA is an asset.
