Job Title: Phlebotomist

Role Overview:

As a phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting various samples from patients, ensuring their proper preparation and packaging for transport to the testing facility. Your role is critical in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the testing processes.

Role Description:

• Perform venipuncture and collect blood samples
• Collect other samples, including urine, stool, and swabs
• Prepare and store samples for transport to the testing facility
• Accurately record patient information and maintain testing requisitions and consent forms
• Manage phlebotomy stock and submit timely requests for supplies
• Accession of samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Five (5) CSEC passes, including Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics
• At least one year of prior experience as a phlebotomist
• Phlebotomy certificate from a recognized institution
• Experience working with diverse populations, including paediatrics and geriatric patients.

• Skilled in blood collection techniques using proper equipment and maintaining patient comfort.
• Ability to clearly explain procedures, address patient concerns, and provide compassionate care.
• Accurate labeling, tracking, and storage of blood samples, adhering to quality and safety standards.
• Knowledge of sterilization protocols, safe disposal of biohazard materials, and adherence to safety regulations.
• Precise patient identification, documentation, and compliance with test orders.
• Adaptability in handling challenging situations, such as difficult veins or patient discomfort.
• Accurate entry of patient data and maintaining confidentiality of medical records.
