The Payroll Officer is responsible for payroll processes, computing wages, and ensuring that employees' salaries are paid correctly and on schedule.

PAYROLL OFFICER

 KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Assist with the preparation of fortnightly and monthly payroll
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare relevant adjustments.
  • Review timesheets and other information inputted into the payroll system for accuracy and completeness.
  • Review tax information entered for new hires for compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Compile statistical reports, statements, and summaries related to pay and benefits accounts, and submit them to appropriate departments.
  • Compute final payments for terminations and redundancies
  • Liaise with third party labour supplier and provide payroll information as required
  • Keeps track of key statutory deadlines and prepares the necessary documentation for filing commensurate with same
  • Store all data used to prepare the payroll and maintain up to date filing system.
  • Continuously identify ways to improve and develop the payroll process
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential. 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field
  • ACCA certification or any other professional Accounting Certification is also acceptable
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in payroll processing
  • Basic Understanding of Accounting Principles
  • Experience with the filing of monthly and annual payroll returns on  TAJ’s website
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP. 

KEY COMPETENCIES 

  • Thorough understanding of the Jamaican payroll tax regulations and procedures governing statutory returns
  • Strong knowledge of  IFRS and accruals concept of accounting
  • Keep informed about changes in tax and deduction laws that apply to the payroll process.
  • Strong numerical skills
  • Understanding of internal controls
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and plan effectively.
  • Excellent human relations skills and ability to work in a team environment.
