Barita Investments Limited invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the role of Paralegal. 

The Paralegal at Barita Investments Limited plays a vital role within the Legal Department, reporting directly to the Legal Counsel. This position is designed to provide essential legal and administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and documentation processes across the organization.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Manage and organize: (i) corporate profile spreadsheets for all entities within the Cornerstone Group, including updating of information as necessary (ii) receipt and filing of relevant KYC/PQ documents for directors and senior officers within required regulatory timelines (iii) filing of annual returns with the Registrar of Companies for Barita Investments Limited, Cornerstone Trust & Merchant Bank Limited, and other Cornerstone companies.
     
  • Act as recording secretary for Committee Meetings as assigned to ensure preparation and submission of draft minutes within such times as required by the Chairman of the meeting.
     
  • Undertake implementation and maintenance of a filing system and organization/ coordination of same including timely filing of all documents in the department.
     
  • Arranging submission of documents to (i) the Stamp Office for assessment and stamping (ii) the Island Records Office for recording as necessary (iii) the National Land Agency (“NLA”), the Companies Office, and National Security Interests in Personal Property Registry (“NSIPP”) for registration as necessary.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  •  Bachelor’s degree
  •  Paralegal Certification/associate degree in paralegal studies/Post Graduate Diploma: Legal Studies is a must.
  • 1-2 years’ experience as a paralegal.
  • Working knowledge of the perfection steps affecting Investment Banking transactions including the Stamp Office, Island Record Office, Companies Office, NLA and NSIPP
  • Working knowledge of filing systems in a Legal and Compliance Department
  • Strong written and communication skills.
