Paediatrician

1.   Job SUMMARY:

To provide general medical care to paediatric and neonatal patients within the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre and Cockburn Town Medical Centre. 1 post are based at Cheshire Hall Medical Centre and 1 at Cockburn Town Medical Centre.

2.   DIMENSIONS:

Where neccessary in conjunction with colleagues request euipment/resources through designated channels

3.   RESPONSIBILITIES:

The post holder will do or cause to be done the activities below.  These activities are not exhaustive and other duties which are within the realms of his/ her qualifications, experience and ability may be required.

  1. Clinical

 

1.1.   Attend to Paediatric  and neonatal in-patients

1.2.   Attend to Paediatric out-patients via the Out Patient clinic

1.3.   Attend to special care baby unit patients.

      1.4  Stabilisation of premature or sick neonates prior to transfer to level 3 NICU

      1.5  Attend deliveries where indicated according to policies and proceedures.

       1.6   Provide Paediatric and neonatal emergency coverage on an on-call basis

1.7   Baby discharge checks

      1.9   Provide evidence based patient care within acceptable regional/worldwide standards

        1.10  Medicals for “Looked After Children”

      1.11  Facilitate, where neccessary, visiting consultants

        1.12  Assist colleagues in a collegiate manner where neccessary

        1.13  Advise on  the delivery of nursing care to the Paediatric and Neonatal patients.

 

  1. 2.       Administrative

 

2.1.   Creation,Review & Maintenance of Policy & Procedures

Partake with colleagues in the creation,review and maintenanceof policies and proceedures for the Paediatric  department

All existing policy / procedures will be reviewed at periods set at the time of writing and, where changes in practices / systems occur which affect the currency of the policies / procedures, at the time of such change.

               Any changes will also be after due consultation with other stakeholders.

 

2.2.   Adherence to Policy & Procedures

 

Adhere to policies and proceedures, or adivse CMS of variance and reason for variance if it is felt that a variance is neccessary for the best interests of patient/hospital

 

2.3  Assist with the selection of equipment and consumables where appropriate.

 

  1. 3.       Committees

3.1.   Membership of  Committees

 

The post holder may be required to sit on committees either as a routine or as ad hoc requirements for investigative or other purposes

 

  1. Quality and Best Practice

The post holder will conform to any and all quality initiatives which may be present within the hospital and ensure quality and best practice within their work at all times.

 

  1. Continuing Medical Education (CME)

5.1.   The Program

The postholder will attend CME session as required for maintenance of Medical license

5.2.   Presentations

The post holder will take part in the program by presenting a topic at least on an annual basis

 

  1. 6.       Advisory

The post holder will provide paediatric  advise and guidance to colleagues as requested.

The post holder may also at times be required to provide paediatric advise and guidance to CMS/CEO

    

4.   DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY:

Responsible for clinical desicion making in appropriate areas

5.   COMMUNICATIONS AND RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:   

Paediatric colleagues, all medical colleagues, ward and out-patient nursing team

External: 

As required by CMS or CMO with Ministry of Health, NHIP and TCIG representatives

6.     KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR JOB

Education

Required

  • Holder of an approraite medical degree and Royal College / Boards / other certification in Paediatrics
  • Holder of an approraite medical degree and Royal College / Boards / other certification in Neonatology

 

 

 

Experience

Required

  • At least five years in recognised  Paediatric  posts.

Desirable

  • Previous substantive consultant post or equivalent

Communication Skills

  • Good written and oral communicaiton skills in English

 

Demonstrated Skills/Abilities

Desirable

  • Basic computer skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft/Windows operating system

Essential

  • Professional manner
  • Must have proven strong interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
