                                          Purchasing Assistant (Food Distribution)

Overview: Our client is a leading distributor for food and beverage products to the Retail/Hospitality Sector based in Barbados. Due to growth, they are seeking a well-organized aspiring candidate to assist with the purchasing process to enhance internal operations and customer service.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Handle all purchases
• Manage contacts with suppliers
• Manage and track incoming shipments
• Coordinate contact with customs broker
• Ensure containers are cleared and returned to port to avoid all storage, and demurrage cost
• Actual stock counts to reconcile with system
• Coordinate shipping documentation (making sure they have what is needed to clear goods on arrival)
• studying the market to identify price trends and future availability of materials and goods
• locating new vendors for new opportunities
• negotiating prices
• preparing requisitions and purchase orders and planning orders ahead
• maintaining purchase records.
• Reporting on stock levels, goods on order, price increases
• Maintaining price list weekly
• Communication and working as part of a wider team.           

Desired Experience/Qualifications:

• Min 5 x CXC qualifications
• Previous working experience in a similar function, ideally within Distribution.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Highly organized.
• Strong work ethic.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Computer literate.
• Proactive nature.
