PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE

The Public Health Nurse provides direct patient care, including assessment, treatment, counselling and anticipatory guidance to clients. In addition the post is accountable for providing health education and health promotion relevant to maternal health and family planning, sexually transmitted infections, breast and cervical cancer prevention. Supervision and operation of satellite clinics including transportation of specimens, supplies and cash. Design, implement and maintain childbirth education classes. The post is accountable for initiating contact tracing and reports cases of communicable diseases to Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit.  

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, be a Registered Nurse, be registered and currently licensed with the Bermuda Nursing Council or be eligible for registration, and have current CPR certification. A minimum of three years’ post qualification experience is required. Midwifery or equivalent Obstetrical qualifications and experience in Public Health Nursing are preferred. Applicants with training in prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and control of sexually transmitted infections, as well as a Certificate in Public Health, Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA) certification are preferred.   

In lieu of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, consideration may be given to those applicants who are Registered Nurses and possess six years’ relevant experience.
